This is the first time for this group to walk this trail. The trail is a beginner- to moderate-level hike through the woods. We'll be picking up the red trail in the northern third of the park. There's off road parking here- no parking lot. Perhaps there's room for a half dozen vehicles.
This location is not that hard to find. From Dixwell Avenue (Rt. 10) in Hamden, turn onto Benham Street. Follow Benham all the way until it ends when it intersects with Main Street. Turn right on Main Street then take first left onto Mountain Road. There will be a place to park on the side of the road about 500 yards from where you turned onto Mountain from Main. If you see greenhouses on the right you've gone too far.
Too intimidated to go to a gym? Like the outdoors? Want to be encouraged to live healthier? Looking to get out of the house to meet new people while getting in shape? Hamden Walks is a program designed to encourage ANYONE to come out and just walk!
This is a group for anyone interested in walking, hiking, fitness, and exercise. Although we focus on New Haven County walks, we sometimes walk in other parts of Connecticut. We hope to appeal to a broad range of walkers.
For safety reasons, a photo is required for membership. Please have a photo of yourself, not your pet, a cartoon, or another image.
Although this is a group for walkers at many levels, we are not medically trained for emergencies; therefore, we cannot accommodate people with medical issues that may create an emergency during the walk. Please review the disclaimer.
There is an optional "Chip In" button for donations. Meetup charges organizers a fee to use the website, so please help out.
DISCLAIMER: We walk as a group of friends. By way of attendance at our events, members and their guests agree that Hamden Walks and its organizers and event hosts will not be held liable for any injury/illness while walking or attending the event. Members walk at their own risk and need to ensure that they are fit enough and adequately prepared before attempting the walk.
