Ride Deer Creek Hills Preserve Monday Nites - all summer

Deer Creek Hills Preserve is part of Sacramento Valley Conservancy  located just north of Rancho Murieta and is opening up their property for MTB riding on Mondays thru the summer.  No need to wait for the monthly Saturday rides. Start time is any time after 4:30.  So no set start time for rides as they are all self guided and self paced.

The deal -  Each week they set up a course on the many trails out on the Deer Creek Hills property.  Course changes each week so it will not get boring.  Courses are typically about 4 mile loops.  It is a self led course marked with cones at all intersections so you will not get lost.  Most of the trails are single track mixed with some double track.  Ride is one direction so no "head-on" issues.  Ride as fast, as slow or as often as you like until sunset.  Ride one lap, or how ever many you want.  Take a break between laps and then hit it again.  Show up anytime after 4:30.  Beverages and food is allowed, however, you must take any trash with you when you leave.

While SVC is not charging a fee, they do appreciate donations.  They do have a water jug, but do remember to bring your ususal stuff (water, extra tubes, helmet, etc.).  Also, a cell phone is needed just in case you have issues out on the trail for safety/emergencies

So if you are looking for some rolling hills with some technical sections and have nothing to do on a Monday afternoon/evening, you may want to check out what Deer Creek Hills and SVC have to offer.  Depending on the route, there are some climbs but they are short and non-technical.

How to get there - Take Prarie City Rd south from Hwy 50 to Whit Rock.  Trun left on White Rock, right on Scott Rd and head south to Latrobe road.  Turn left (east) about 1/4 mile the paved road makes a sharpe right turn - GO STRAIGHT on the dirt road (should be a sandwich board sign indicating a public event at Deer Creek Hills Preserve.  About 1-1/2 miles in on the dirt road, you will see a corral area on your left (norht side).  Go thru the gate and park near the picnic tables.  General location map is here - http://www.sacramentovalleyconservancy.org/admin/upload/Fig2_02-RegionalLocationMap060331_.pdf

While the SVC would like you to pre-register (so they have an idea how many folks will show up), you will not be turned away if you just show up.  You can sign-in/register at the corral area.  Link to pre-register can be found on the SVC calendar - see here http://www.sacramentovalleyconservancy.org/calendar.asp
