10-Mile Trail Run at First Landing State Park / 9+ Minute Pace

If you don't stay up all night celebrating the 4th, come out for a fun trail run at First Landing State Park! This will be a 10 mile loop run of the Long Creek and Cape Henry trails beginning and ending at the Trail Center parking lot. After running a half marathon last weekend I'm looking forward to a fun trail run and this is one of my favorites.

Beginning at the Trail Center we'll run the Long Creek Trail out to 64th st, continue down 64th st to the Narrows & Beach area before returning on the Cape Henry Trail. The Long Creek Trail is some challenging running with some climbs and sandy sections while the Long Creek Trail is broad and flat for easier running on the return. There is water at the Trail Center and at 64th St but I recommend carrying hydration with you. You should also plan to use bug repellant before we get started.

For me, this run is the 2nd part of a brick workout I'll be doing that morning and will follow on the heels of a 15 mile bike ride out & back to the oceanfront. I expect to be back at the Trail Center and ready to run by 8:00. Because of this, expect running about a 9:00 to 9:15 min pace. After that bike ride it might take a mile for me just to find my rythym so be patient with me.. lol. So, if you're looking for a comfortable trail run on Sunday.. this is it. Come out and help me finish my workout!

This run begins & ends at the Trail Center which is located inside the main park entrance off Shore Drive. This entrance is located directly across from the park's beach entrance at the same intersection. To park inside the park at the Trail Center you need a state park pass for your vehicle or must pay the $5.00 parking fee (weekends). If you don't want to pay the fee you can park outside the park at Hot Tuna/Blooms, corner of Shore Dr & Great Neck Rd, and run into the park (about 1.5+ mile) on the bike path to the Trail Center. If you do this give yourself enough lead time to meet at the Trail Center at 8:00 and let me know when you rsvp so I'll know to look for you.
