OK folks in the hunt for light I think we are going to land on the boardwalk for our speed work outs for the winter. Let's meet at the corner of 43rd Street and Atlantic Ave, parking there is pretty easy on the sidestreets of 43rd, 44th, etc. We'll be doing 3 miles containing 8 x 30 second sprints at 2 min intervals. Trust me it might not sound like a lot but it will kick your butt! Alison

Join us for a beginner-intermediat e run or run/walk. Please don't worry about your skill level as there are many different levels that participate. I will be doing a run/walk for anyone who would like to join me. The pace will be your own comfort level and we will target distance for this run. This week we will start at Running Etc. and head down Colley Ave turning on Olney to Mowbray Arch and cross over Brambleton on Duke Street and continue downtown and turn around at the Spirit of Norfolk and then head back. Parking is along Colley Ave. and side streets. There are no water stops along the way, so you might want to bring your own. Everyone runs their own pace, so feel free to come out no matter what your pace. I'll be there rain or shine. I will only wait 5 minutes for maybes. Any questions, my cell is 512-797-4311.

I don't know about anyone else but with work being busy and getting busier and the evenings getting darker earlier, those post-work evening runs are getting tougher to fit in. So - let's start the day with a wake-up run - get it done and out of the way before work - anything else you do during the day is a bonus! I plan on starting with a just couple of laps of Trashmore at a 9-10 min/mile pace. If anyone wants to join, you're more than welcome - as we progress, I plan on mixing it up a little (throw in a 'practice' 5K run, some speed work etc.) If anyone is training for a particular race, we can tailor it for that too. I can be reached at 288.5191. Sorry - don't wait for maybes.

Thinking about a fall Marathon or Half to put on your schedule? The Outer Banks Marathon and Half run this year on Sunday November 8th. The Marathon starts at 7:20 am in Kitty Hawk and the Half starts at 7:00 am in Nags Head; both races finish in downtown Manteo. Both races are walker friendly and the Marathon is a Boston qualifier. Fees for the Marathon are $75 until July 5th, then $85 until Sep 30th, and then $95. Fees for the Half are $60 until July 5th, then $70 until Sep 30th, and then $80. For complete details see the race website: http://www.obxmarath on.org/site3.aspx When you rsvp indicate what race you plan on running. When the time approaches and if there's enough interest, we can coordinate a meet-up at the starts or possibly after in Manteo. Happy Running!

I know there are a lot of beginners that have just joined the group looking for a place to start! This run/walk will be for those new to running or those that haven't run in a while and looking to get back into the sport. We will meet at the King Neptune statue (by the Hilton at 31st street) and do a run/walk down the boardwalk and back for a total of 3 miles. We will do run/walk intervals where we will jog for 2 minutes at a slow 12 minute mile pace (or whatever everyone is up for) and then take a 2 minute walk break and repeat this for the entire run. No one will be left behind and we will stay together as a group so I encourage all beginners to join us! Parking is probably easiest at the 31st street parking garage but there is a charge to use the parking garage so give yourself some extra time if you want to find free street parking futher away. The water fountains should still be on but feel free to bring a water bottle for convenience sake. I will be running in the earlier Race for Breath 5K at 9am but should have my phone after the race by 10:00 if there are any questions. My cell number is 512-797-3411.
