A casual gathering of lettering, good conversation and sketchbooks

March lettering meetup, poll results, homework, guest hosts, and a theme...

Good day, lettererers!

Meetup number 2 is a go, planned for Wednesday March 26th from 6:30-8pm.  The theme for March is... wait for it... "The number 2" and today we bestow ourselves with the first Hand Lettering Homework assignment.  Take some time out this month to sketch the number 2. Is it a number?  Is it 1+1? Is it something you'd prefer not to step in? Tell us what the number 2 means to you in a sketch. We'll look forward to seeing everyone's creations on the 26th. And don't worry, we won't judge, but we will offer creative criticism if you ask. (we'll definitely be asking for yours!)

Next up, poll results: "Where should we hold the next meetup?"    We had a three-way tie between Rudyard's, Onion Creek, and our Mom's House. (mhmmm... very funny!) As it turns out, our moms are busy on the 26th and Onion Creek lost the coin toss, so we'll see you at Rudyard's for round two.

And finally – We are excited to open the opportunity for Guest HostsInterested? Please let us know! Responsibilities include brainstorming a theme and a homework assignment for the following month, creating a sketch of the next date and location, and any other creative flavor you'd like to add to the meetup. Starting in April, we'll announce the first of several alternating guest hosts.

Thank you again for everyone who came out to the first meetup... we're excited to get together again this month. Until then, stay warm & dry, practice your lettering and keep inspiring!

PS - In case you didn't hear, the meetup website suffered a few technical glitches this past week but lo and behold, they (and we) are back in action and ready for March.  There was so much wonderful feedback during the meetup last week. If you have ideas or additional thoughts for future lettering meetups, we can't wait to chat more with you. Feel free to comment below and we'll look forward to seeing you again soon.

PPS - This announcement was brought to you by... the number 2.

We were just talking about that at Culture Pilot yesterday... Wish I was going. We just got back in from SXSW and TEDActive so it doesn't seem likely this year. Gonna be a killer line up though.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
