The South Pasadena Community Chorus and Calvary Chancel
Choir will hold TWO events this spring. All rehearsals are on Saturday mornings from 9-11 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1050 Fremont, South Pasadena.
This first event is a collection of Folk songs, Spirituals, Renaissance Madrigals, and music by American composers including Aaron Copland, William Hall, and Matthew Brown. Matt will be Composer-in-Residence for our event and we’ll feature his original setting of “Table Grace”, a poem by Garrison Keillor (recorded on the Gothic
records release “Gratitude, Gravy, and Garrison”).
This time, our rehearsals will feature our usual group rehearsal format, but with more time available for divided rehearsals for sopranos-altos, and tenors-basses. We’re going to capitalize on the abundant resources we have with our section leaders: excellent vocal coaching, professional composers, and our own music historian for those pesky early music questions that gnaw on us. Lol. Our Section Leaders are Michelle Jackson, Kim Shahbazian,
Matt Brown, and Joel Nesvadba.
We do offer a good time for all, great camaraderie, plenty of singing, and an afternoon concert as our target. Coffee and nibbles always happen. Don’t miss out!
• Rehearsals are Saturdays, March 9, 16, 23, and 30, and April 7th. Concert is Sunday, April 8th at 4pm. Mark your calendar – RSVP for our rehearsals and concert event – Bring a friend or two – we’re aiming for a chorus of 60 – don’t miss out!
• Please see the next event posted for our Second Meetup opportunity this spring! Those rehearsals will be April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18, and Concert on Sunday, May 19th at 4pm.
