Dance like it's 2013!!!! With the start of the New Year we are going to help you keep those New Year resolutions to get active and social by learning and practicing salsa dancing in a fun, friendly, relaxed environment! We'll be joining in with an ongoing (LGBTQ friendly) group. There will be lessons for all levels from beginner to intermediate, followed by an open practice. No partner needed! Drop in at any class! Beginners always welcome!

Beginners will dance from 7-8 pm and intermediates will dance from 8-9. Most of us are beginners so between 8-9 we'll head across the street to the James Joyce pub for a drink. Group will meet in front of the church once the class is dismissed at 8pm and wander across the street to the pub together.

As we are  joining a pre-existing group (which is LBGTQ friendly, not an LBGTQ specific group) I encourage everyone to dance where you're comfortable. The group instructors break us into groups of traditional 'boys and girls' but don't feel confined by that - if you want to lead join the lead (boys) line - and if you want to be lead, join the girls line. When it comes to practicing feel free to dance same sex - but remember, one has to lead and one has to follow, its the nature of the dance so don't be shy to take the position that feels natural to you.

LEVELS

Beginner: In this level, you will learn a few variations of the basic step, how to connect to  your partner, and how to dance to the music. You may also learn how to spin and the crossbody lead. We suggest staying in this level for at least four classes, but you are welcome to do more or less, based on your own comfort level.

Transition: This level will prepare your for the intermediate level. You’ll review the skills from the beginner class, as well as build a solid foundation for more complex moves. We’ll teach you the crossbody lead with an inside turn and several variations of this fundamental move. We recommend staying in this level for a couple of months.

Intermediate: At this level, you’ll be expected to know the skills taught in the previous level and we’ll quickly teach you a large variety of different moves. You’ll refine your techniques, partner connection, lead, follow while learning many patterns. You will also learn many different ways to add styling and an individual personality to your dancing!

There is a build up here people ... we'll be heading out to learn salsa steps every week through to December then we'll end this fabulous year off with a night of salsa dancing at El Convento Rico! So come out and get your groove on so you can burn up the dance floor with us!!! The cost is $8 per class or $70 for a 10 class pass . If you purchased the Buytopia deal ($24 for 24 classes) from the link I sent out your classes are only $1 each!!! (Sorry, this deal is now closed).

What to wear?
Wear comfortable clothes such as a t-shirt and jeans. Try not to wear running shoes because their rubber soles will make it difficult for you to spin.
