Laughter Yoga (LY) is a series of simple yet profound exercises based on the philosophy of “acting happy.” Research has shown that the body does not distinguish between simulated and genuine laughter and in either case produces the same “happy chemistry.” In LY we decide to feel good by engaging the body in the physical actions of happiness and relaxation i.e. laughter and deep breathing. This technique does not rely on the mind; therefore one does not need to be happy, have a sense of humor, or even need a reason to laugh.
Laughter Yoga is comprised of short stretching, breathing, and laughing exercises designed to stimulate the diaphragm and the flow of oxygen through your body for enhanced physical, mental, and emotional well being. It starts with simulated laughter exercises and through eye contact and the infectious nature of laughter, turns into genuine delight. It is uplifting, fun, and anchors one fully in the present moment.
