Hello. Happy hours make me happy. I live in Royal Oak and rarely get around to going out anywhere. I hope this group can apply some peer pressure.
Happy Hour Thursdays is a Meetup group mostly made up of single professionals in the 40's age group who is interested in meeting new friends. We are one of the most active and fastest growing Meetup groups in the state of Michigan that has grown to over 3000 members in about two years.
Every Thursday, rain or shine, we meet up at a “swanky” restaurant or bar between 5 PM and 9 PM, mostly in Royal Oak, Birmingham, Troy or the Rochester Hills area. Due to the size of the group, averaging around 100 people at each event, we’re able to strike some wonderful deals such as special menus, happy hour drink prices all night, reserved seating, etc.
But it's not just cheap food and drinks! The whole idea of this Meetup group is to make friends. Since we started this Meetup, we've made so many good friends and that is what keeps us motivated to organize events.
Following are answers to some of the common questions we get.
What is the demographic of the group?
95% of our members are single professionals between the ages of 30 to 50 who live in or around Oakland County.
Is this a singles group?
Even though all most all our members are single and we had a lot of romantic relationships blossom, including marriages this is not a singles group. The idea is to make friends and socialize, if that friendship turns into a relationship that's even better.
Is this a business networking group?
Nope. You are attending our events to make friends, not to sell. Actively selling will get you removed from the group.
So the group is free to join? What's the catch?
The group is free to join and managed entirely by a volunteer staff. Karma says that if someone wants to be happy in life, they need to make others happy. We are a firm believer in that.

Rules and Regulations - Please read before joining.
One of the reasons thisMeetup has been so successful is because it's run professionally by your organizers, and that involves rules and regulations. Please read them, follow them and feel free to comment. At the end of the day, this Meetup operates on the feedback it gets from its members.
Strict RSVP Policy
To maintain the success of these events, it is important that you keep your RSVP updated. Most of you are very good at this, and we really appreciate it, but it's the 1% of people that aren't that create a challenge. Organizers put a lot of time and effort into making these events a success. Restaurants are offering us these extended specials based on our word and a handshake. There is no contract. If we can't keep our word, they are not going to trust us next time and it makes it impossible to do another happy hour at the same venue. If you think you may not make it, please change your RSVP, you can change it until the event start time. We may have members on the waiting list, and it would be unfair to them if you RSVP 'yes' and do not show.
Even if you have to cancel at the last minute, please be sure to update your RSVP. It only takes a few seconds. Members who do not keep their RSVP updated will be will not be permitted to RSVP for future events for a year. Life is not perfect and we do make exceptions. If there were exceptional reasons that made you unable to update the RSVP please let us know
We require that members possess a meetup.com account with an actual picture of yourself and real first name associated. We value the safety of our members. Therefore, if you can't use a proper photo or first name for any reason, please contact the organizers. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
To attend an event you are expected to be on the RSVP list. If you plan on crashing an event just because it's being held at a public venue, you may be refused special prices that we have negotiated for the event or may not be allowed into the event area. You will also be removed from the Meetup group.
Some venues have very limited capacity, therefore it is imperative that you do your best to RSVP so we can continue to offer such great specials!
Be nice to others. Do not harass our members online or offline. If someone says “not interested," then take that as a strict "no."
If a member has any concerns about another member making them feel uncomfortable, please make the organizers aware of it.
We also will not condone slander, defamation of character, or anything that causes drama between members or instigates a bad karma for the group.
We take photos during theMeetup events and these get posted on the Meetup site. It's your job to get out of the pictures if you do not want to be in them, or get in the picture if you want to be photographed. The organizers cannot do anything after an event for members who are unhappy that they weren't photographed. Be sure that the photographer requesting to take your picture is the designated Happy Hour Thursdays photographer and not just some random person.
Don't drink and drive. We have a professional-grade breathalyzer, and anyone can use it. If you fail the test, take a cab or sober up before driving. The restaurants can be liable if you drink, drive, thus they have the right to call the cops if they believe you are leaving their venue to drive while intoxicated.
Thank you for your cooperation and welcome to the group.
