ARE YOU GETTING BUSINESS OR PROFESSIONAL VALUE OUT OF YOUR LINKEDIN ACCOUNT?

Join Jason Alba, author of "I'm on LinkedIn--Now What???" for an in-depth presentation of eight actionable things to do during 2008 with LinkedIn. Whether you only login to accept new connections or you use LinkedIn regularly, this presentation will help you understand where you should get value, where others are getting value, and how to put your best foot forward.

LinkedIn is the network of choice to find and nurture professional relationships online. With over seventeen million members, and considered a tool by business development professionals, recruiters, and others, it is definitely a tool that you should optimize. If nothing else, make sure you are passively optimizing your LinkedIn account. But you should take it further, and actively use various features to get more value out of it.

In this presentation Jason will share easy ideas that you can incorporate to increase your chances of being found and appeal to the person finding you, find what you are looking for, and enhance relationships with your contacts.

Join us and learn about how to make LinkedIn work for you. Read more about the book at: http://happyabout.inf...

BIO:
Jason Alba is the career management evangelist. He got laid off in January 2006 (and still hasn't quite gotten over it). Even though he had great credentials and it was a job-seeker's market, Jason could hardly get a job interview. Finally he decided to step back and figure out the job search process and try to understand all of the available resources. Within a few months, he had designed a personal job search tool, JibberJobber.com, which helps professionals manage career and job search activities the same way a salesman manages prospects and customer data. Jason blogs at http://www.JibberJobb..., wrote "I'm on LinkedIn---Now What???" and is working on his second book "I'm on Facebook--Now What???"

Hi Sandy, If there turned out to be enough demand, we would be able to record and post events. It's a great idea or maybe we could use a product like that from Qik. Given that wasn't done for this event, you could pick up a copy of Jason Alba's paperback or eBook at this url: http://www.happyabout.info/... Let me know if this helps.

I'm looking forward to learning more about networking. I'm on LinkIN but truly just don't know what to do to utilize the connections!

Who attended?

  • 101 attendees
    •  Good presenter and subject. Sorry, I had to leave early.
    •  Enjoyed the Facebook meeting the previous night more -- the mix of people was more compatible for my interests.
    •  The presentation was full of great ideas about using LinkedIn; some of these are new since the book was written. The venue was excellent and the food fine. It would have been good to have something besides coffee and water to drink. The meeting was much too long; after a full day's work and a confusing drive to the meeting on three different freeways, several hours is too much. There were lots of places to tighten the agenda: 45 min netwokring instead of 90; 5 minute intro instead of 20; and stopping some people who were not asking questions but rambling. It was considerate of the emcee to give us an opportunity to see the lunar eclipse.
    •  good presentation in that the speaker was flexible in sharng his knowledge based on the audience needs, speaker was very knowledgeable, speaker was agood presenter, speaker spent additional time due to more interest from people
    •  could have used a bit more depth. For example, live examples with real (or made-up profile) about how the tips and tricks work, as well as the benefit achieved. There were nuggets here and there that were beneficial, but it seemed that those weren't quit enough.
    •  I felt that I walked into the middle of something that I didn't know anything about and was trying tio 'catch up'. The title of the meeting made me think it would explain what linkedin was about. It leaves me with many questions--but I will ask my friend who first invited me in and I will look at the book. The idea of 'rules' turns me off, but that is most likely because I don't yet understand the point of them. Having said that, I am glad I went, thanks.
    •  The meeting was great overall. The only drawbacks were the logistics (see below)
    •  Jason was a great speaker and highly effective presenter.
    •  Many attendees did not realize there was going to be an hour of networking before the presentation
    • Susan L. Brown (+1 guest)
The speaker had some good points but was disorganized and not detailed enough. I suggest that screen shots and a more step by step approach would have been more helpful
    • Nathan Nahouraii (+1 guest)
Good meeting. Liked the flow of it.
