Welcome! This is a fun & friendly hiking group that specializes in lesser-traveled, lesser-known, obscure/remote non-urban hikes. If you're looking for something other than the usual urban dumpster dives w/hoards of people, this may be your fit. While we sometimes schedule after work walks/hikes in urban areas due to limited time, the full day hikes on the weekends will be in places like Anza-Borrego or lesser-traveled areas of CNF/Lagunas, etc. Most hikes will be within SD County but occasionally there may be trips to Joshua Tree, Mojave, Sierras, etc. Please note that many of the hikes will involve off-trail, cross-country travel. Your hike leaders have several years of experience and travel at a slower than average pace so no one is left behind or feels rushed. The goal of this group is to enjoy the wilderness while getting exercise & making new friends in a safe, supportive manner. Please keep in mind that "hardcore" does not translate to fast. There is no place for competitive chest beaters in this group. ;-)
Speed racers, flakes, & no-shows need not apply. This group has a Zero Tolerance Policy on no-shows, which means that if you RSVP 'Yes' on any event, then fail to show up without first changing your RSVP or otherwise contacting me (E-mail, call, text) then you will be booted from the group. We put a lot of time & effort into doing research & preparation for the trips & have no desire to deal w/disrespectful, lame ass flakes. Also, if you come on a hike & then separate yourself from the group (w/the exception of bathroom breaks & emergencies) you will be removed from this meetup (after all, why join a hiking group if you really just want to hike alone?).
**Please note that this is a group of active members, not apathetic, which means if you join & then just settle into being a creepy lurker for months on end, you will be removed from the group. (FYI, Meetup considers anyone who has not visited the website in 3 months or more to be "inactive" & this info is displayed to the Organizers. So this means that after 3 months of lurking you are at risk for being removed from the group.)
Please DO NOT bring your children. This group is for adults only. ;-) Well-behaved pooches on leash/under control are welcome on some of the walks/hikes, depending on what the laws are for particular areas we go to. :-)
New members must be approved by the Organizer
