Hardware Startup Meetup SF @ Autodesk Gallery

Okay - so that last meetup was totally wild. We had a lot more than 200 people there and hit the fire marshall's limit of the building - whoa! Thanks again to the team at IDEO for hosting us all (Kyle Doerksen++ for setting it up) - it was great times!

The Next Meetup: March 5th

This installment of the meetup is shaping up to be big too. The CAD / design extraordinaires at Autodesk are our sponsors this time around, and they're hosting us in their beautiful Autodesk Gallery in downtown SF from 6pm to 9pm.

Demos, at 6:30pm

We had more demand for demos than time, so this time I'd like to let those who haven't presented yet have the first spots (max of 20 spots, 2 minutes each) - sign up on the March 5, 2013 tab on the Demo Spreadsheet. For the uninitiated, this is a 2 minute demo / talk to the whole group with a hard time limit. There's no powerpoint, etc. - just you, a microphone, and hopefully your prototype/product.

Also, we've been growing this forum, and now have over 1,300 subscribers! If you want to talk hardware startups online, this is the best community to do so: http://www.reddit.com/r/hwstartups

Hardware Startup Volunteer Meetup

I haven't scheduled it yet, but I'm looking people to help with the group, and we're all going to be meeting up pretty soon. If you'd like to participate, please let me know. Whether it's building this group, organizing a sub-group (like "How to do X", or "Gadgets like Y"), or anything you want to contribute to the hardware movement.

As always, let me know if I can help, and hope to see you guys at the meetup!

Carl Bass just announced at the Hardware Innovation Workshop that Autodesk would be opening their products to a free-for-companies-making-under-a-quarter-million-in-sales program soon. So that's another avenue anyone will soon be able to get a copy through.

  • Katie C.

Anyone still not receive theirs yet? I got the email but no box... :( Don't ever want to be greedy but really jazzed to start trying it out!

    May 14, 2013

    • David S.

Wow it's been a while Katie! You'd think in 2013 one can download it after punching in a code. LOL!

      May 14, 2013

    • Doug / I.

Suggest you follow up with Autodesk ASAP. Use their confirmation email as "Exhibit A". Hopefully, they can associate your name with the Product Key of the lost copy. Then issue you a new copy. Inventor Professional 2013 retails for $7,300. Good luck!

Mine never arrived. But I've had packages stolen from the lobby of my building before. Is there a way to void its serial number?

Incredible meetup and venue! Doh! I lost that tiny slip of paper for the freebie software. Were the codes all identical? If so, can someone message me the link and code? If not and the codes were unique then never mind. I'm still grateful for the brief jubilation of an Oprah-esque audience experience. Thanks to Nick and Autodesk for an awesome time! I took plenty of pics so enjoy! Bye!

    March 6, 2013

    • Doug / I.

Bummer. The codes are unique. Look harder for it. It's like a winning "Lotto Ticket".

      March 6, 2013

    • David S.

Thanks Doug, Is it a full forever license or timebombed suit or trial? The paper they handed out were so tiny like fortune cookie slips so it must have fell out of my pocket trying to negotiate the rain on my way home. Oh well I still have my good health haha! See y'all next time!

Fantastic stuff once again. So many cool people to talk with and so much cool stuff to look at in the gallery! Thanks Nick & Autodesk!

I've taken the initiative to start a very similar-style Meetup for the South Bay/Silicon Valley, which you can now join here: http://www.meetup.com/Smarter-Things-Startup-Showcase-Silicon-Valley/

We'll schedule events just as soon as we reach critical mass & find a sponsor in the area...

GREAT Meetup.. I know I scared some of you people last night with my intro to our new company. We at Barimba are not really going to stop those over pours and free drinks we are just going to let management know...

That was a great idea and can be cost effective for alot of businesses instead of employees taking advantage and abusing work product and killing potential revenues. Good job Brian!

Considering Autodesk's gift of everyone attending their Suite for FREE? Awesome. Seems like some of the repeat presenters are making advances and that's exciting and encouraging. The use of the 2 min. rule is definitely adequate. The set-ups for showing of projects was goo=d as well.

Hey everyone, thanks for listening to me talk about MultiX. We are looking for a couple of people that want to have a virtual desktop on our super nice hardware. It's really easy to setup.

We give you a username and PW and then we set you up on a Xeon CPU with 50GB of flash storage + 100GB of disk storage, and a Windows 8 environment. You get full admin rights so you can install whatever you want over our 1GB connection. It really is an awesome experience.

Any tips on logistics for Demos? I have 3 trips from my car and I know the gallery is in a very busy spot downtown. Is there a loading zone?

    March 5, 2013

Hmmm - I'd get there early and ask to borrow a cart - they should have one. Not sure other than that.
