SF Hardware Startup Meetup Dec 4th, 6pm Sponsored by Highway 1!

Hey Hardwarians!

It's time for our last meetup of 2013! This has been a wild year for the meetup: we've more than doubled from just over 1000 members in January to over 2300 now. No denying this movement is a real (big) thing!

To help us celebrate, Highway1 is sponsoring our event, and also announcing that their Spring 2014 applications are open to find 15 hardware startups for their incubator in San Francisco. VP of Highway1, Brady Forrest, will be there telling us all about the program and great resources they offer.

Hosting us at their awesome / massive space in S. San Francisco is Counsyl who provide genomic analysis for big life-decisions (like pre-pregnancy testing), and do it with wildly cool automation.

DEMOS - If you've got a prototype to show us, or if you just want to talk about what you're working on, use this sign-up sheet to grab your spot! The format is 2 minutes maximum (hard stop): no projector, no slides: just you + prototype and a microphone! Remember, people who've never demoed get preference over those that have already! Also, be there at 6pm sharp to secure your spot!

Volunteers - If you want to volunteer, please sign-up here!

Getting there: The venue is in South San Francisco. It's quite a hike from the S. SF BART/Caltrain station, but if you'd like to carpool down - use the comment section of this Meetup event page to coordinate!

Announcements:

- Makers @ The Mint: Our own co-organizer Erik Katz is putting on a pop-up maker retail event this weekend (Nov 23-24) 11am-6pm at Mint Plaza in San Francisco. For more info: MakerNexus.com

As always, let me know if I can help, or if you want to! Especially if you've got sponsors or venues you can connect us to!

- Nick

    Hi everyone,

We just launched Vigo, the wearable device that tracks how alert you are and nudges you when you're drowsy, on Kickstarter! The link is here: http://kck.st/Jz1Y75. Great for driving, boring meetings or lectures. I was at the recent Meetup, thanks to everyone who came to check it out! Show your support and help us make Vigo a reality!

    Cheers,
    Jason

What's the name of the company which Dorian presented on - the match.com for designers & manufactures? Thanks for the help!

    December 5, 2013

  • Adam P.

One of the presenters last night mentioned he was developing interconnected electronics tools (I assumed multimeters, oscilloscopes, and such) and could use people to try out prototypes, but I failed to look closely enough to find him later. Anyone catch his or his company's name?

Anyone willing to offer a ride from anywhere around the mission? I'm happy to go out of my way to get as close to you as possible to make it convenient and effortless. :)

    December 2, 2013

    • Tyler P.

Hey folks, sorry for the late reply here - I had really wanted to attend this meetup but realized I (stupidly) requested a ride before I was able to RSVP, it was waitlisted. I definitely will try to make it to the next one and will bus if I have to! Sounds like a great group of people.

      December 5, 2013

    • Tyler P.

Thank you so much for your willingness to offer a ride! I'll see you guys next time :)

    Best yet.

Solid, nice information content. Good set of presenters if one is looking for infrastructure support. Maybe adding a bit more technical content would enhance the content ? Possibly have two types of presentations, 2 min and 5min ?

In looking at the nature of the presentations, and I have never attended, it appears commercial centric. Is a presentation of a low volume (bordering on hobby) product that uses sensors & computation to control a water craft of any interest ? I fear it is below the target audience.

    November 28, 2013

    • Steve G.

I've been to a bunch of these- Yours sounds fine. The things presented run the gamut of commercial, hope-to-be-commercial and simply things that are interesting to see and/or hear about.
