Hardware Startup Meetup SF @ Jellyfish Art

Hey Hardwarians,

It's time again for another Hardware Startup Meetup! Sunglass.io is our sponsor this time, so we'll have some great food and drinks. Sunglass aims to be the easiest way for design teams to collaborate, and they'll preview their version control system for any team size, location or file format.

Here's all the details below. Let me know if you'd like to present a project / startup! If you want to pitch, please put your name on the August 23rd tab on this Google spreadsheet to secure your spot (also add your name to the "Startups" tab too).

Also, if you haven't checked the hardware startup resources we've been working on - check 'em out!

Let me know what you think guys!

- Nick

Directions:

To the find the place - here's the StreetView of[masked]rd St.: http://g.co/maps/9egx8. We'll be right inside, so it's a no brainer. Public transit is easy to get there, and there's pretty ample parking around the place as well. Those of you coming up on CalTrain - get off at 22nd St. and it's a quick walk on 22nd St. the meetup.

Schedule:

  • 6pm - Talking and Drinks
  • 6:30pm - Start the 2 minute pitches (hard stop, so get your timing down!)
  • 7:00pm-ish - Pitches end, and we get to talk with everyone.
  • 9pm - The official event ends, and we go to our respective bars of choice.

Anyone have access to a 3D printer that they'd be willing to let me use for a few hours to print some prototypes? I'd gladly trade skills/work/expertise. http://www.linkedin.com/in/shaunhoulihan

I am looking for someone that can help source a small linear actuator... Write back if you deal with linear actuators or know who I can contact. Great meeting many of you!!!

    August 24, 2012

    • Blaze S.

I would recommend the Firgelli's micro linear actuators driven with Solar System Express' (Sol-X) Gravity Development Board http://www.solarsyste...

    • Blaze S.

Sparkfun also has a cool memory alloy actuator for cheap.

    Hey gang!

Got a good idea? Would $50,000 funding help?

    • Blaze S.

Thanks. Solar System Express LLC is entering. But what idea? Gravity Development Board for hardware hackers, educational and fun space skydiving video game, or real space skydiving suit. They are probably looking for more "normal" ideas...

Just pledged $20 to Usman Rashid's CameraMator on Kickstater at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/urashid/cameramator-wireless-tethered-photography.
I encourage you to do the same as part of the effort to help each other out get our projects off the ground. This is the third KS project that I'm backing of people that I met at these meetups. Fun to see the various projects launching.

Is this more hardware "make" oriented or product design oriented?

    August 1, 2012

    • Nick P.

It's a mixture of maker, product design, startups, quantified self, etc. It's meant to showcase serious products / companies - not be a "maker" group. There are plenty of the latter already.
