Celebrate First Fridays @ The Schomburg Center & Ginny's (Red Rooster)

  • May 2, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The Schomburg Center hosts a social/networking event the first Friday evening of each month, rain or shine, from 6 pm to 9pm.

All visitors are welcome to Hors d'oeuvres and beverages while enjoying/dancing to DJ music. It’s a great way to meet and greet members of the community while learning more about the arts, culture and history.

Our Meetup

We'll meet in the library lobby next to the Information Desk at 6:30pm to gather there. The event at the Schomburg will end at 9pm.

Please find me (Daniel) in the area to the right of the information desk - I, as well as others, will be wearing a "GO" name tag (similar to the image above) on the front of my jacket/shirt, and name tags will be given out to identify other members. As guests of the Schomburg, you are also encouraged to take a self-guided tour of the library and current exhibitions, which are:

• Motown: The Truth Is A Hit - Click here for more

• Funky Turns 40: Black Character Revolution - Click here for more

• The Deep South–Then & Now - Click here for more

Many of the library and NYPL staff and executives attend the Schomburg Center's First Fridays event, as well as a wide variety of professionals from many backgrounds and industries. Definitely a good social & networking opportunity!

Post-First Fridays Drinks at Ginny's Supper Club

Afterwards, we'll head down to Ginny's Supper Club at Red Rooster
(www.ginnyssupperclub.com) to keep the good spirits going with a nightcap of drinks, socializing and dancing. We'll arrive at Ginny's around 9:30pm and will end the meetup there officially at 11pm. If you can't make the Schomburg event, feel free to meetup with us there, and anyone is welcome to stay as long as they'd like.

Ginny's Supper Club is located on the downstairs level of Red Rooster
(www.redroosterharlem.com), 310 Lenox Avenue, between 125th & 126th Streets.

As always, if you're running late, need further directions, or have any questions, please give Daniel a call/text to 774.275.3646.

Directions to The Schomburg Center:

Train: Take the #2 or #3 trains to 135th Street. The Schomburg entrance is between 135th & 136 streets, on Malcom X Blvd. (Lenox Avenue).
Bus: Catch either the M7 or M102 to 135th Street and Malcolm X Blvd.

I had a great time at this meetupl. Thanks Daniel, for being a such a warm and welcoming host. Lamel was great also, and made me and friends feel at ease. People were friendly, the music was good, it was a very cozy dancing environment. Also the Motown and Funky 40's exhibits were informative, overall it was very nice.
The only downside was that it was a bit overcrowded at Red Rooster, so we couldn't really sit down.

Good looking and friendly group! Delighted to meet those who I did, and hope to meet others at future GOs! and around the 'hood! I agree with Anita-name tags were fun!
Thank you, Daniel. It's a real pleasure knowing a "socially adept" man who is workin' it behind the scenes-making your guests comfortable. :)))

Overall everything was fantastic. Thank u Daniel for making me feel comfortable and introducing me to other members. Might sound corny but I really like the name tags. Allowed this shy woman to approach others more freely and engage in conversation.
