The Connecticut Pride Hikers present The Fall Foliage Hike
Sleeping Giant State Park
200 Mount Carmel Ave, Hamden CT
October 19, 2013 (rain date 10/20), 11:00 AM
Sleeping Giant Park is part of the Metacomet Ridge that extends from New Haven (Long Island Sound) through the Connecticut River Valley. There are more than 30 miles of hiking trails through the Giant and it is known for its multiple cliff-top vistas and micro-climate ecosystems. To enjoy panoramic scenic views during this peak foliage period we will venture up to one of the summits from which, on a clear day, Long Island Sound can be viewed. It is estimated the hike will take about two hours and 15 minutes and is of an intermediate intensity. For more information about the park and for directions please visit www.sgpa.org.
Parking and Meeting: Please be informed that if a parking attendant is in the booth at the parking lot, there will be a fee for parking. Many choose to park along Mount Carmel Ave. Please plan a few extra minutes to park and walk to the main entrance of the park. We will meet at the map /post- board at the main entrance of the park
After-Hike Social: The after-gathering will be held at Eli’s on Whitney that is located seven minutes away from SGP at 2392 Whitney Ave in Hamden. A head count of those wishing to attend this gathering will be taken when we meet for the hike. To view the menu and information about the restaurant & pub visit www.elisonwhitney.org
As always, new comers are welcome. Remember to utilize footwear designed to prevent slipping and to watch a weather forecast so you will dress appropriately.
