Come explore the geology of Case Mlountain in the Highland Park section of Manchester. Geologist and UConn professor Gary Robbins will describe the rock formations and how they came to be. Wear sturdy shoes or sneakers and expect some bumpy terrain. The hike and commentary will take about two hours. This moderately paced (and SLOW at the beginning, but a bit strenuous as we go along) hike will bring us to the summit of Case Mountain. We will view property owned by the Town of Manchester and by the Manchester Land Conservation Trust. IMPORTANT: This hike starts at the BIRCH MTN ROAD trailhead: From Hartford, take I-84 eastbound to I-384, exit 4, left off exit ramp, right at stoplight, go under highway bridge, and take first right onto Birch Mountain Road. The parking lot is on the right, just a few feet from the intersection. Extreme weather cancels. No dogs, please. The Case Mountain Recreation Area has over 600 acres of forest, brooks, rock formations, and trails. Come find out more. Let me know if questions!
