Benefit Concert "From Broadway to Boheme" for 5-yr old Ethan

The concert will benefit the son of a friend of one of our hiking members who passed away from breast cancer on Saturday, 12/7/13. Amy was a 33 year-old single mother - Her son, Ethan, is five. When Terri, our hiking member, and friends originally scheduled the concert, it was intended for Amy's expenses. However, she went downhill very fast and so the concert will hopefully be the start of a college fund for Ethan. As you might imagine, Terri is still working on the details on that - everything happened so fast.

Terri, is a professional opera singer and she is doing a benefit concert "From Broadway to Boheme" with a baritone named Kenneth Overton. It will feature hits from opera and music theatre, as well as selections from Kenneth's new CD. We know it isn't hiking, but a bunch of hikers have always said, "Let me know when you are singing" to Terri, so here we are.

Anyway, here are the details:

Date: Saturday, January 11
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: First Baptist Church of West Hartford, 90 North Main Street, West Hartford, CT

This benefit concert was nothing less than superlative! Terri and Ken have such a beautiful synergy, and extracted the Soul of each song they sang in such a way that one could not help but feeling deeply moved. The result was the exact same on their respective solo pieces. There is something exceptionally beautiful, and plaintive, about the simplicity of two voices, and a piano accompaniment, which words really can't describe. Needless to say, they captured that quality throughout the whole evening, and I am so grateful to have been part of this transcendent experience provided by these two very gifted Souls (and Mary on piano, too!). One could argue that, perhaps what is of more import, the real reason for the concert, is to honor those we have lost to cancer, and those battling cancer and to support those who must carry on after the loss of their loved ones. In this light, Terri, and Ken and Mary captured the essence of what it means to be compassionate, and loving. Bravo!!

I edited the event to put the benefit purpose first, then the details of the concert second. I did this as the "preview" text on meetup only captures the first couple sentences and reordering will help convince people of the worthiness of this event.

I have just bought a ticket for this very worthwhile cause. I don't think I will be able to make the concert but Terri said to buy tickets anyway if you wish to contribute. There is plenty of seating at the church so you would not be taking away seats from anyone if you can't make it. I also wish I could hear Terri sing... another day... Merry Christmas everyone... and even to the littlest ones among us.
