Temescal Canyon, Skull Rock Loop

http://youtu.be/MFhCeDtJXx0
So how about it? Meet up with your fellow hikers for a 4 mile roundtrip hike to Skull Rock in Topanga State Park, 800 feet elevation gain, with a loop past the Temescal Ridge overlook. It's a hike most beginners can finish, and all levels are welcome.

We’ll take the waterfall trail (seasonal waterfall may or may not be evident), stopping briefly at Skull Rock so that people can climb and take pictures, before returning via the ridge trail. Views of Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean await.

Bring comfortable shoes, 1 liter or quart of water, windbreaker or sweater in case there's a breeze, snacks and money if you wish to join us for an optional after hike lunch nearby.

Sorry, but no dogs are allowed on this hike (and yes, I’ve seen plenty of dogs on this trail, but officially, dogs are not supposed to be there and I want to encourage following the rules).

This hike is scheduled for a maximum of 3 hours, but this is a rough estimate which can be affected by weather, number of participants, trail conditions, and other factors.

You can choose to pay and park inside Temescal Canyon Park (and I'm sure you will be thanked for your contribution). There is also plenty of free parking on Sunset and Temescal Canyon.

Rain cancels.

Bring water, layered clothing and a snack. Do no hike on an empty stomach! On Longer Trail Hikes: Wear lug sole shoes, long sleeve shirt and long pants for brush and tick protection, at least 1 liter of water per 3 miles, snacks, lunch (if posted), and the "Ten Essentials". Carry rain gear if the rain forecast is 20 percent chance or better. Know your own capabilities and plan accordingly.

Sorry we missed the rest of the group. Don't know what happened. I was there about 10 minutes early and never found what looked like a group to join in with, but I did find Jeanne. We hiked, later met Nancy and Art, and were delighted to find out that they were part of our group. Hope to meet the rest of the group another time.

I was there! Unfortunately did not see a group of people. I did find Carl and we hiked and ran into Art and Nancy. Don't know about anyone else. It was a beautiful day, good workout.

According to the map the entrance to the park is at that intersection. From what I understand you can park for free on Sunset or pay if you park in the park. Regardless where you park we will meet at the corner and walk in. I don't know how many people are going. I assume we will wait some reasonable time and then start the hike.

Are you suggesting we carpool from there to the staging area or is that corner where we would park and walk from there? I live in Anaheim so I'm not familiar with the area, sorry. How many people are going?

Looking at the satellite view why don't we meet at the north east corner of Sunset and Temescal Canyon Road, near the bus stop. How does that work for everyone?

I'm a real beginner and will be coming from Anaheim. I googled Skull Rock and Temescal Gateway Park. Where exactly will everyone be meeting? Is this a good beginner hike?

This Hike Was in the "Suggested" Section. When 3 or More People are Interested in the Hike It Gets Listed on the Main Page. After That Someone Sets a Date/Time. I Put the "Suggestion" but Cannot Do the Hike on the Day/Time "Others' Asked For, Sorry. I Could Do the Hike in April. But Right Now I Have a Four Day Trip to Syke's Hot Springs in Big Sur to Prepare and Do in the Next Two Weeks. The Trail is Well Marked and I'm Sure Someone Can Google a Marked Trail Map. I Would Love to Go, But.....

It can be done clock- and counter-clockwise, but if you prefer to have the strenuous exercise in the beginning you should do it clockwise and start with the Ridge Trail.

I haven't been there, the map you show isn't Temescal Gateway Park. Would you please clarify and specify exactly where we are to meet.
