ADVENTURES IN HISTORY AT BOWFIN PARK

Geraldine Doyle the inspiration for Rosie the Riveter

with Author: Donna Knaff, Ph.D

Her Book:

Beyond Rosie the Riveter; Women of World War II in American Poplar Graphic Art.

FOR THIS WEEK ONLY!!!

We are doing something a little different this week - we will be meeting this upcoming Wednesday on the Lanai at Bowfin Park.

This is a free event with complimentary pupus, refreshments and an honor wine bar & Free parking

Not to network, not to get business leads and no pick-ups!

Our objective is to create an atmosphere similar to having friends over and
talking in your living room. Just come out to unwind and socialize. So please
join us!

Wall flowers are welcome ~ no pressure allowed!

Life is what we decide to make of it and I cannot think of a better way than to have a once a week gathering of good people and just enjoy each other’s company.

The choice is yours… you will not know what you are missing if you do not at least come out and see what it is like to meet new people, no strings, no stress, no expectations.

Believe me you will never find a group of people who will welcome you as if you were a long lost friend. There are no strangers amongst us ~ just friends we have not met ~
sharing bad jokes and enjoying everyone’s company.

It was a nice change from the usual outings; and a great venue. The setup was comfortable, easy parking, learned some history, and I enjoyed the food (thanks Debra!).

What is an honor wine bar? Is it pour your own and leave money? Who is providing it? Can we bring wine?

    November 11, 2013

    • Ron and Debra J.

Hi Danya, Good question. It is a pour your own red or white wine and make an appropriate donation to offset their costs (container provided at the counter). Drinks and pupus provided by the curator /management team of the Bowfin Museum and Park who sponsors this event. They made a schedule change to Wednesday for this event to accommodate the Hawaii After Dark group. No outside alcohol allowed.

Just to give everyone a heads up - Wednesday, Hump Day Social this week 11/13 at the Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park will begin at 6:30 pm with complimentary pupus (donations will be appreciated) and an honor wine bar. The lecture on the book; Rosie the Riveter commences promptly at 7 pm. So please arrive before 7 pm - this event promises a fun and interesting evening. I have been told there will be books available for purchase and I would bet the author would be happy to sign them. It would also make a wonderful gift for the younger generation to learn how women played a significant roll in the United States war efforts of the industrial and modern era.

Free Parking will be in the Ewa, Pearl City or east side of the Arizona Memorial lot. Ron and Debra

I don't want to miss this event, but I just got called in to work that night, so I need to cancel : (

  • Gail

Yes. Like Ann if anyone can give me a ride I wold appreciate it. I do not know where bowfin park is either.

    October 5, 2013

    • Tina

Hi. The Bowfin shares the same location as the USS Arizona Memorial. If you drive/take the bus, enter through Arizona Memorial entrance. If you get lost, a Park Ranger/staff/volunteer at the Arizona Memorial can point you in the right direction.

It's a bummer the dates have been changed, but I'm still in because it really does look interesting!

I will send a separate E-mail to all members, however please note the change in dates on this. Because of circumstances beyond our control, the dates have changed. It was originally scheduled for October 19th. We are now talking about Wednesday November 13th. We have scheduled another event at Kincaid's on October 10th in place of the October 10th Event.

    October 5, 2013

    • Debra Jo & R.

Kincaids will be Oct. 9th @5:30pm

      October 5, 2013

    • Ron and Debra J.

Unfortunately yes but only the parking, which was a crucial issue. However talking to them they have tentatively scheduled it for a Wednesday this time since we meet on those evenings. Another plus, Debra is going to volunteer to help out with some of the food as all of it is donated, and if you have ever talked to anyone who has been over for dinner you are in for a treat. They had a fantastic spread the last time we attended one of these functions, add Debra's cooking into the mix as she is basically a gourmet cook and it will be a night to remember both for the food and the lecture.

Sounds interesting and unique. Thanks for arranging this and bringing it to my attention. I can get to the Bowfin on a long bus ride from Waikiki, but if anyone who is going from Waikiki has room for a passenger and wouldn't mind some company on the drive, please contact me.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
