What better way to start up your weekend than a Fitness Hike up Koko Crater? This is a short intense hike 1000 feet up the side of Koko Crater along an old rail line. This is the poster child for Rails to Trails! Think of it like you are climbing the Empire State Building. The climb is its own reward you will feel Great! As a bonus there's a great view of Honolulu, Diamond Head and Hawaii Kai.
Duration: This is about an hour round trip.
Dogs: Are allowed, always on leash.
Dangers: Minor only. Some slippery railroad ties and high steps up and down. Trail shoes are sufficient as footwear. No sandals - although I see plenty of tourists out there struggling in sandals -- ha ha.
Directions: From Honolulu head East on the H1 all the way through Hawaii Kai. Turn left onto Lunalilo Home Rd go about half mile, then turn Right onto Kaumakani St. Follow to the end of the park. We will go at our own pace up the hill and regroup at the top. Bring water. Rain cancels.

Walking around outdoors and hiking carries inherent risks, like sun burn, bee sting, falling down, the dreaded 'hat hair'... umm... broken bones, falling off cliffs or birds might poop on you. You could get a twisted ankle.. Hike within your limits, know your surrounding, have a plan, go with a partner. Always carry extra water and hike within your limitations.
