Explore Hawai'i, enjoy the tropical ambiance and get a fitness experience! We organize hikes for all skill levels. You should join if you enjoy hiking, the outdoors and meeting new people. It's a good idea to go hiking with a group, as hiking on Oahu can be dangerous.
The Mission of The Hawai'i Hiking Group is to safely introduce people to the beauty and fun of the hiking and outdoors fitness experience in Hawaii. Because of the danger inherent in hiking in wet, slippery trails, we do not allow dogs on hikes. See the specific dog policy here: http://www.meetup.com/HikingHawaii/about/
For safety reasons, we require each member to use a recognizable portrait of themselves for their profile photo. Please visit this page for more guidance: Profile Photo Guidelines. Please make sure your profile photo is in keeping with our policy BEFORE you submit your request to join. Since we cannot often contact people who submit requests to join, we usually have no choice but to decline their request to join. If this happens to you, please resubmit your request to join our group after you've replaced your profile photo with one that meets our standards.
On Oahu, we all benefit through the wealth of open-access trails. Each time we adventure outside we recognize the trail system was put in place by volunteers and needs maintenance. We will help sponsor groups that do this maintenance through our dues. Dues are only $12 a year! Your dues go to maintain the trail system, to purchase safety gear for the hike leaders, and to pay the costs of meetup.com. It's a good deal because we do a lot of hikes. We hike as a group and try our best to make sure members do not get left behind on our hikes.
*This group was founded by Bob Cosmos who dedicated the group to Jackie Michon, a beautiful soul, who introduced Bob to hiking. Jackie, you are the reason we share the beauty of this world today. Smile!
