I'm not really picky; I consider myself up for any challenge if I'm interested! However, I do have a strong love for practical origami, such as boxes and containers. I am also fascinated with action origami.
I believe origami is a transformational art; it has helped me in many ways. It gives me challenges to conquer, it helps me to focus, and it offers me an opportunity to share something valuable with other people so that they may grow and transform as well. Plus I use it for practical, everyday purposes; those pencil holders are very handy things! =)
I started at 7, when I got a very unique papercraft/origami program called Paperopolis. I didn't have anyone to ask for help, but I was determined to try it on my own! I must've attempted to fold a traditional Waterbomb over 40 times. But I succeeded in the end; I was hooked!
My name is Ashley Nishihara, and I teach students (primarily kindergarteners) origami in an after-school program at Le Jardin Academy, a private school in Oahu.
