em·pa·thy noun \ˈem-pə-thē\ : the feeling that you understand and share another person's experiences and emotions : the ability to share someone else's feelings.
One of the traits common to healers is some degree of empathy. As everything holds both light and shadow, the ability to feel the emotions of others as if they are your own can be both a gift and a hindrance. While empathy can enhance the connection between a practitioner and a person receiving healing work, it can also leave the healer open to a flood of emotions that can be at best disruptive and at worst disabling.
