Who's Dr. Geetha Rao?

Dr. Geetha Rao is Vice President of Corporate Development at Triple Ring Technologies, a research and development company with a major focus on medical devices. As part of her responsibilities, she runs MedTech Frontiers, an educational forum exploring the intersection of leading-edge science and technology with medicine. She is an internationally recognized expert in medical device risk management and has served on several international policy making bodies and as an invited expert to regulatory agencies.

Dr. Rao serves as an advisor to the Health Technology Forum in Silicon Valley. She is also the founder and CEO of Technology Frontiers Collaborative, a scientific and educational organization providing collaborative forums for stakeholders at the frontiers of science and technology. Currently, she is leading the Connected Health Safety Initiative to promote smart regulation for connected health technologies.

Dr. Rao holds a B.Tech. from IIT, Madras, a Ph.D. from MIT, and was a Sloan Fellow at Stanford Business School.

What will be discussed?

The topic of the session will be: Global and Regional perspectives on mHealth

Emerging markets have dramatically increased in importance for medical technology innovation. They no longer just represent potential revenue expansion opportunities, but have become central to the development, launch and expansion of new medical devices and healthcare technologies. The increased focus on reduced cost and more accessible care for more people has led to innovations on a variety of fronts that are globally applicable. In particular, mobile technologies have been leveraged to create several new effective models. This talk will discuss some of the success stories and the environment for mHealth development in the various regions of the world.
