Camping at Gold Lake (Plumas County)

http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/plumas/recreation/recarea/?recid=11197&actid=82

Gold Lake Campground is located in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area. Located nine miles southwest of Graeagle, California, this recreation area has special geological features. There is breathtaking scenery and over 20 small lakes nearby, most of which are accessible by hiking trails. This area provides a multitude of recreational activities including camping, fishing, boating, hunting, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, hiking, backpacking, swimming, windsurfing and nature study. This campground is located along the shores of Gold Lake at an elevation of 6400 feet. This campground has 37 sites with tables, fire rings, food lockers and toilet facilities. Garbage service is provided. There is no water. They did get about a foot of snow this last weekend, but anticipate it to be gone in the next 2 weeks. The campsites may still be a little damp. In case the weather decides to stay wet and cold we are open to other locations. One suggestion has been Davis Creek county park.

Dogs are welcome. Directions:

Take Highway 89 southeast from Graegle, California for two miles. Proceed south on Gold Lake Highway for 10 miles to Gold Lake. Location

Looking forward to meeting a fellow backpacker. That's what my gear is as well. (Why I said I was camping minimalist). :)

I am giving my new backpacking equipment a test drive, so I'm not out in the wilderness if something fails. I'll be packing light and eating dehydrated, but I would be happy to bring something for the group. Please let me know. I was thinking about smores. I also have wooden skewers.

Hi All, I just wanted to give an update for Food. I figure everyone will bring their own supply, however, I am bringing and want to use up during this trip an 18 count of Eggs, and I have a half of ham and a package of Turkey bacon. So that should cover one breakfast for everyone. I also have a package of ball park hotdogs and a package of ground Turkey meat for hamburgers. I'll bring some buns for both too. I'll be bringing 3 onions and a big bag of organic carrots to use up too. So these are some group share items that I have. And of course, BYOB or BYOW. The weather should be great. I just finished my finals today, so I am eager to get out and start my summer. Cheers!!! :-)

I don't believe there is a group site, but we will be getting several sites next to each other. We are allowed 8 people per site. Tim & I will be up there around 2pm on Friday to make sure we get good spots.

This is a joint meetup camping event with the 30s/40s group, kayaking group, and Reno Hiking group. All are welcome. There is no fee for this campground in May. The other organizer/host for this event is Tim Findling.
