Annual New Year's Day Hike

Come join us for our annual New Year's Day hike.  We will be hiking the SW end of the orange loop from the south gate to Lake Goodwin.

We will be hiking approximately 7 - 8 miles and at times will be moderately strenuous through areas of sugar sand.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water/snacks and bug/sun protection for the hike and lunch to eat afterwards.

HIke starts @ 10am; what time do you need people @ Lake Godwin?

  • Eileen

David, Val & I will be riding with Dawn. Val thinks he can find that parking.

If anyone would like to car pool from lake Godwin to the starting point.... I can take 4 passengers...to starting point.

Would love to ride with Dawn - but David, unsure of where that parking is. Are we by any chance parking at the McLean Cabin?

      December 31, 2013

    • David W.

You turn onto Lake Godwin Rd and follow it to the end. It is before you get to the cabin.

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it. Look forward to seeing you at a future event.

I looked on Google Earth at the corner of School Bus Rd and SR 64 and there is not a parking lot. Are people going to car pool over there from a paved lot or can they park on School Bus Rd?

    December 29, 2013

    • David W.

With that said, if people could carpool to the hike if possible just to keep the number of vehicles needing to be shuttled around to a minimum that would be great.

I have me plus three others. I may go in the north gate and meet you when you move the rides up to the Godwin parking area. If this is a problem contact me ASAP.

Please note - there is a $2 per person fee that will need to be paid prior to the start of the hike. There is a honor box at the south gate.

Thanks Eileen and David, but I don't want to drive that far for a day hike. I'll change my RSVP to no.

Can someone help me with how to get to School Bus Rd. off of Hwy. 64 from Hwy. 27? You don't have to go to Avon Park to get on Hwy. 64 do you? Thank you.

    November 11, 2013

    • David W.

Eileen - I haven't updated the map for this particular location.

Teresa - If coming S on 27 you can turn left on CR 17A which will take you around to 64 east of downtown Avon Park. Then you would turn left onto 64 and follow it until you were almost to the Air Force Range. School Bus Rd is about 1/2 mile from the entrance to the bombing range. http://goo.gl/maps/dS... Here is a link to School Bus Rd.
