Since August, 2011, Heights Meditation has been meeting on Saturday mornings and this meeting--because of its timing and format--is many meditators' favorite among our daily meetings.
The meeting is held every Saturday morning (no exceptions) from 8:30 am until 9:30 am at Our Savior's Atonement Lutheran Church.
Meetings begin with the meeting moderator helping everyone to find a comfortable position and assume a relaxed yet focused mental attitude. Generally the moderator walks participants through their bodies to re-invest consciousness with a sense of embodied vigor and ease. After this body scan, we sit quietly and meditate for 20-25 minutes. Whenever the mind wanders and seeks out a satisfaction outside of the self--which might be a fantasy, a regret, a hope, a bodily craving--the meditator simply steers consciousness back to the breath. In this way we practice mindfulness, focus, and discernment. The mind simplifies its activities as the body relaxes and as the body relaxes, the mind (in turn) settles into a happier more contented state.
Meditation is truly not at all difficult but to get good at it and realize most of its transformative benefits requires practice. Most anyone who practices the technique once a day will tell you that it has an enormous effect on her ability to cope with challenges and to be happy in life, no matter what.
Heights Meditation is a friendly and open-hearted group. Please come visit us if meditation seems attractive or necessary to you in your life or if you have had trouble establishing and keeping up your meditation practice as a lone agent!
