The Henry David Thoreau Sangha (“Hank”) meets every Monday night at Wilson Chapel (lower level), Andover Newton Theological School, 234 Herrick Road, Newton Center, MA.
The group was formed in April, 2001. We have about 18 regular participants. We are affiliated with Boundless Way Zen and the Greater Boston Zen Center.
If you are new to Zen: Please send an email to let us know you are coming. Arrive at 7:00 pm for a brief orientation before our regular program.
Meetings always include Zen meditation (zazen) and Zen liturgy (chanting). On most Mondays there will also be either a dharma talk (lecture followed by a discussion), or the opportunity for individual meetings with a teacher (dokusan). You are invited to attend all or any portion of the activities — whatever works for your schedule and inclination. We do 25-minute periods of sitting meditation, and a few minutes of walking meditation between periods.
The event starts at 7:30 pm sharp. Some members show up early to socialize. We usually end between 9:00 and 9:30. You are free to leave at any time.
Attendance is free. Donations to help us pay our rent are appreciated.
