Musical Get-Together

Come to a friendly get-together to play music, sing, drum, and learn. Musicians, singers, professionals, amateurs, beginners, all musical levels and all kinds of instruments welcome.

Enjoy playing music and singing with other members, meet friendly people, teach if you can, and get inspired by others. Every meeting is a different combination!

All musical levels, including beginners, are welcome, so long as you enjoy it! If you have any of these, bring them... extra instruments, music and lyrics others can join in on, CDs we can play along with.

I have an 88-key Alesis keyboard I can set up (it's like a piano) for anyone who wants to play it.

If you RSVP "Yes", leave a comment what instrument(s) you will bring, just so everyone has an idea.

Also wanted to mention, I thought Scott and Jason were a great addition to the group. Hope you guys can come regularly.

Scott's voice really works well for "Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys."

Jan, Thanks for the encouragement! I had a great time and loved meeting everyone.

This was a great session, I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did! Let's keep it going!

There were some really good musicians at this session. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Sorry to also bail.... I had to work until 5, and worked all day yesterday. I hope to get together and meet everyone soon, though.

Masoud, do you have any objections if I bring our 6yr old? My wife has other plans tonight. He's well-behaved and would probably spend a good share of the time playing on his Android tablet.

    • Masoud

      Bring him over!

I will be a no show, sorry. Jam out you all.

I am not going to make it tonight after all. Have a great time. Maybe next month.

Check this out, a you tube link to while my guitar gently weeps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rj4J6i_vw0w . I'll bring copies of chords for everyone.

Great version! I think they go back and forth between A Dorian and A minor if I'm not mistaken.

      June 8, 2013

    • Samanthie

I have chords in C/A minor.

Argh. I have to be a no-show. Too much to get done today. :(

In Chicago. Keep the good vibrations happening.

Hi Masoud, does anyone have a small PA, like a Fender Passport? I'd like to bring my preamp, but it doesn't have a power amp or speakers. I'd need two line-level XLR inputs, like into a mixing board.

    June 7, 2013

    • Jeff

At a previous meetup I used my mic preamp feeding into the auxiliary input of my guitar amp. We can probably do something like that again. I'll have that along, as well as some cables and adapters.

      June 8, 2013

    • Jason

Or even if someone had a powered monitor with an XLR input. I'm looking into what I can get tomorrow too.

      June 8, 2013

  • Jan

We'll be coming from DC; we'll probably get there late.

    June 8, 2013

  • Lynda D.

I will be there. I was listening to "Good Vibrations" Beach boys today. Maybe that could be a tune for us. Also a fun Beatles song.
If we select some, then make copies for all to go by.

I'd like to try that song.

This group sounds awesome! Given I am physically disabled, are there wheelchair access points at this upcoming meet up?

    June 5, 2013

    • Masoud

Hi Robert. This meetup is at a townhouse, there are a few steps to get in. Is that passable? I'm also thinking of doing a meetup outdoors at Lake Anne (it would have to be just acoustic, I don't think we can get electricity hookup there), would you be able to attend there? Or maybe at Herndon's town green (we may be able to get some electrical hookup there).

      June 5, 2013

    • Robert H.

Thank you, I think both of those options are great, having electricity doesn't matter too much to me. I also know Burke Lake park is beautiful as well if you needed any other ideas!

  • Marty

Massoud- let me know if you feel it's getting too crowded and I'll change my RSVP. No worries. Lynda, Now I can't get good vibrations outta my head. Good song!

    • Masoud

Marty, it's always good having you. We have no-shows often, and if it gets too crowded, we'll figure out something!

      June 5, 2013

    • Lynda D.

      Thanks, Marty.

      June 5, 2013

  • Jason

I haven't been here in awhile and am looking forward to it! I'll bring some music too, if anyone likes jazz.
