Million Dollar Highway Ride

We will travel to Durango via Hwy 285 and Hwy 160. We can decide on a place for lunch maybe Salida or Monte Vista, depending on the time of day. On Saturday we will head north out of Durango on Hwy 550 and stop for breakfast in Silverton. We will then travel to Ouray, Telluride, Delores, Mancos and back to Durango. This is approximately 232 miles with a lot of mountain turns. Our trip home will be back north from Durango to Montrose, Gunnison, Salida and home on 285.

Please take note of the new changes in motel accommodations:

New motel is Days End Motel , Durango, Co... [masked]-3311. There is a block of rooms reserved under Van Young or HRMR. Reserve yours before Sept 4. Pat K says this place is OK.. Rates are; king single $52, dble queen $72,,,,1 or 2 people.

Let Van know or post your plans in HRMR comments.

This loop is also known as The "San Juan Skyway" loop. Absolutely the best!

Thanks to Van for putting together a great ride. 3 days of mostly good weather, beautiful scenery and a fun group to ride with. Sunday's ride back on 285 was fine, very little rain after Del Norte. We ate lunch and watched football in Buena Vista for an hour and still got back around 4:30. Odometer read 1,271 miles.

Another epic Durango trip. Had a great time and can't wait to go back. Thanks to Van for all his efforts in organizing and leading. Thanks to Pat for her kind gesture as well for the "A" team. Great meeting Laura and John. The view from the top of Telluride was breathtaking. Cool gondola ride!

Wow!,,,,,1056 miles on the odometer! Already looking forward to next year's ride. Had a skunk visit the happy hour Sat eve! Four beautiful trophy bucks walked into the motel parking lot to wish us a good ride home ! Also saw a moose along 285 feeding in the ditch. Got a little wet to Pagosa but not too bad on 285. Spent an hour in Johnson Village for a burger. Saturday was just the perfect weather and temps. Also, next year, we will keep a better eye on Glen 'I' ! My son told me Sun nite that Hwy 550 was closed Sun due to a mud slide and engulfed an RV ! Dodged that fun! Sure makes it more fun talking to the other bikes with the cb. Gotta go to the "bike wash" !

For Sale: Kawasaki 650 KLR. Seat very worn. Not the bike, THE RIDER!!!! Really, had a great time and would do it again instead of staying home.

Had 2 very brief light showers, otherwise very dry. Stopped for lunch in Buena Vista and home by 4:45. Was a nice ride... even saw a cow moose :)

Good ride. Lots of great scenery. Good happy hour on Saturday night. We were lucky with the weather, saw film this morning of flooding in Durango yesterday. Not a drop of rain after Del Norte. How did the 285 group fare?

Anyone that has done Run For The Wall has (had?) an emergency form in a pouch, on a lanyard to wear around the neck. The emergency form is a very good idea. I think that I still have one from RFTW.

Sorry if this gets long winded but was just in garage wrk'g on bike for the loop ride and thought I'd pass this on ; Another group I ride with carries MEDICAL INFO in their LEFT saddlebag in case "anyone" needs it like an 'EMT'. You can print a generic FORM off the internet and seal in a sandwich bag. Include blood type , who to contact, etc, etc,,,,. We also should know who knows CPR in our group. Please know that Dan Fitzgerald is a retired fireman and I'm sure he has EMT training. My info will be taped on lid in the left saddlebag on Friday! THX

I just noticed the time....7:00 PM. Isn't that a little late for LUNCH in Salida? Since this event is still a couple of weeks away, maybe we should revise the departure time :-)

Planning on riding to Moab Sunday with Glen. The ride to Durango thru South Fork not South Park and Lake City is one of my favorites. I reserved a single room, why not at that rate.
