HRCC Road Ride - Lookout Mountain to the Top of Genesee Mountain
This is option one of our two options for you this St. Patty's Day.
A harder route, if you're well along in training and have already found you legs this ride might be for you.
We start at the gas station in Morrison (The one on your right as you go into town from C-470) and ride the east side of the Hogback along Rooney Road, up past Heritage Square and down to Lookout along the bike path that parallels Rt. 6 where we will regroup just below the pillars. From there it is up Lookout to the Buffalo Bill's Grave and another regroup. From there we continue up to the Nature Center, up through Mt. Vernon to the Buffalo Overlook and regroup there. From there to the top of Genesee Mountain for our final regroup before we head back down and then back to Morrison with one final climb (and regroup at the top of the Hogback) back over the Hogback to get back to Rooney Road and back to Morrison. Total is about 35 miles but it does have a Cat 2 climb on it and about 2900 feet of climbing total. Will be harder than Deer Creek but easier than High Grade. Last 1/4 mile or so is dirt if you go to the top of Genesee but we can always turn around at the end of the pavement if the road looks too messy. If you have your legs already this season this might be the ride for you. If you are still building fitness or your training calls for some climbing but maybe not this much you might want to consider option 2.
