Georgia AT Section #4 Woody Gap to Neels Gap

The hike will be approximately 12 miles.  One group beginning at Woody Gap and the other at Neels Gap, with a "key swap" in between.  This section (#4) of the Georgia AT features Blood Mountain, at 4460 feet, the highest point along the trail.  Leaving Woody Gap, there is a fairly easy ascent to Big Cedar Mountain.  The trail then falls to Dan Gap followed by a steady rise to Blood Mountain.

This will be a difficult hike due to the length, even if we go slow.  Estimated pace (2.5 mph) and should be completed in less than 6 hours, including breaks.  If you are not capable of doing a long 12 MILE hike with elevation gains over 1,300 feet do NOT attempt this trip.

Pack a lunch, trail mix, snacks, 2-3 liters of water, rain gear, hiking poles, small flashlight, even though we should be off the trail before dark.

This hike will be a "KEY SWAP" hike, as a shuttle hike would be to cumbersome and take way to long.  Myself and Lars will lead seperate groups from each direction.  Additional info will be provided prior to hike.

*Hopefully, we can have a celebratory group dinner after completing this Appalachian Trail GA Section #4:)!

Note: This is an exploratory hike that has not been accomplished by the event hosts.  However, we do know where both trailheads are located and that, along with some determined hikers will result in another successful hike.

Gary, Lars, Teresa and Paula...outstanding coordination...once again a vg outing. Weather, trail and people were great. Starting next I'll be traveling for a month so I won't be able to join you for another hike until August so have a great summer. Bill

Thanks for everyone's support. Clearly I wasn't ready for that and I appreciate your patience. I'm pretty stubborn, so I will get there. You folks keep an incredible pace. I'll be doing some shorter hikes in the mean time to work up to where you are. Great people, amazing hiking ... I was really impressed by everyone.
