HIKE RED  TOP  MOUNTAIN

This will be a 6½ mile hike through the woods and along the lake shoreline in one of Georgia's beautiful State Parks.

We will be combining the Homestead Trail and Lakeside Trail, totaling 6.5 miles:

Meeting Time: 10am

Meeting Location: Red Top Mountain Visitor Center

659 Red Top Mountain Road Southeast, Cartersville, GA

Hiking Distance: Approximately 6.5 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

Hike Contact: Dan L [masked]

Our hike will begin at the Visitor Center and is of moderate difficulty. This trail will take you through the forest and along the shores of Lake Allatoona.   We will even pass by the chimney of an old homestead home.  You'll need to be looking for it, though, or you'll miss it.  :)   This hike offers the widest diversity and nicest scenery of all the trails in Red Top. The full trip puts the total walking distance of this hike at approximately 6½ miles. Be sure to bring plenty of water. The hike will take about approximately 3.5 - 4 hours.

The hike is free, but there is a $5 cash fee per vehicle for parking unless you have a Georgia state parking pass.

What To Bring:

  • Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots.
  • Bring plenty of water to keep you hydrated.
  • $5 for the parking fee or a Georgia State Park parking pass.

If you're interested in carpooling to save on gas and parking, feel free to use the discussion area below.

The Visitor Center is a small reddish log cabin type of building.  There are restrooms at the back of the building, and on the inside there are some exhibits and a cooler with sodas and water for sale.

PETS:  Friendly LEASHED dogs are welcome.

WEATHER: As with all outdoor events, if it's raining/stormy or very poor trail conditions, we may have to cancel.  If the weather is questionable, please check this event page before you leave home.

See map here:

**  Be sure to key in the address we list above rather than the one on the site.  The site takes you to their lodge, and not the visitor center.
