Come join us for some wonderful views from Surebridge Mt in Harriman State Park. We will be starting from the Lake Skannatati parking lot on Seven Lakes Drive. We will hike the Arden-Surebridge trail to Times Square (for the rock challenge for those so inclined!) and then on to the little used Lichen trail. At the top we should have extensive views and will take a break here for lunch/snack. On the way back we will pass by the Hogencamp Mine and then follow the Long Path back to our cars. The hike will be around 6 miles, with moderate pace and hills.
Traction devices (microspikes / 17 studded stabilcers) will be mandatory. I will be checking that people have these (this is both for your safety and that of the group) before we set off on the trail. If you are not sure if what you have are correct gear, please check with me directly prior to the event day.
Distance: ~ 6 miles
Terrain: Moderate, with some rocky sections, a little scrambling may be required.
Dogs: No dogs
Prior to RSVP'ing please make sure you understand the group's guidelines for Attendance and RSVP etiquette. Due to the hike limit I will only be opening this up for members, no guests (writing +1 in your RSVP does not mean you have signed up a guest).
What to bring:
Bring plenty of water, lunch/something to snack on, and anything else you need to enjoy the hike. You should wear hiking boots, remember to dress in layers (no cotton/jeans - these can be dangerous in winter) and bring enough clothing for the conditions.
It will be mandatory to have traction devices (regular stabilicers with the 17 studs, or microspikes only) due to the chance of snow/ice on the trails.
To get to the Lake Skannatati from the TZ Bridge, take Rt 87 to Rt 17 north to Sloatsburg. Make a right turn onto Seven Lakes Drive just past downtown at a traffic light. (There is a green and white sign pointing the way to Seven Lakes Drive, Bear Mt, and Harriman State Park) The lake parking is after the Kanawauke Circle (Rt 106) on the left side of the road.
From the Bear Mt Bridge follow the Palisades Parkway to exit 18. At the circle follow the signs to Seven Lakes Drive. Drive on Seven Lakes Drive, continuing straight at the Tiorati circle. About 2 miles past the circle you will reach the Lake Skannatati parking on the right. If you get to Rt 106 you went too far.
Please the meetup location above will only bring you to the general area, the parking lot location can be found on the Google Map
We will be monitoring the weather prior to the hike and if conditions are not good, the hike is subject to cancellation. Please make sure to check your email/site prior to leaving for the hike, cancellation notices will be sent prior to 8.15 am if required.
