The Hike: There are several trails that radiate from the parking lot and we will explore one.
My intention is to hike north from the park but we can consider alternatives based on weather and inclination. In any event expect to hike for 1.0 to 1.5 hours and figure on 3 to 5 miles.
This hike should be on relatively smooth thread and less hilly than most of our hikes -- a good opportunity for first timers.
General info:
This hike explores part of the Black Mountain Open Space Park which contains 2,352 acres of chaparral and sage brush covered hills, ridges and canyons including Black Mountain. We will explore some trails north and west of the Community Park. The entire trail network is very impressive.
Bring water. Hiking shoes are a good idea though most of the hiking is on service roads and well graded trails.
Directions:
Take I-15 to the Bernardo Center Drive exit
Turn west (right if southbound; left if northbound) on to Bernardo Center Drive
Bernardo Center Drive changes names to Carmel Valley Road after a bit.
Right into the parking lot for Black Mountain Ranch Community Park.
My guess is that it is 3.5 miles from I-15.
Just the right amount of hills to work up a sweat followed by some plateaus that offered some beautiful views. Thanks, Jim, for leading. Really enjoyed this one.

oh my goodness, I meant to change my RSVP to no on here but I accidentally changed it on the wrong Black Mtn. hike. The San Diego Day Hikers Meetup group is doing a Black Mtn. hike on March 30th (and I accidentally changed my RSVP to no there instead). Sorry for not attending. I'm sure it was great.

So happy your hikes are back Jim! Now I have to decided between your hike and the yoga class I've been going to all winter on Thursday nights.
