We had such a great time in Nov and it was so beautiful that night...let's meet up for another full moon hike. (The full moon is actually on Sunday, 12/15, but I figured Friday night would be a better night and it worked well for a lot of you last month...and you can sleep in on Sat!) Hopefully, we'll have the place to ourselves again.
We'll meet at the winter gate this time - head up Mill Creek Canyon (3800 S) to the gate - it's about 15 min from the mouth of the canyon. You'll know you're there because you can't drive any farther.
We'll walk up the snow-covered road again. We ended up quite dispersed along the road last time - we'll try and stick together at a moderate pace this week to make it a bit more social. The meridian passing (when the moon is directly overhead) is scheduled for about 10PM, so we should have plenty of moonlight if the sky is clear. Bring headlamps just in case. You can also buy lights or bells for your dogs at REI if you think they'll help you keep track of your canines:
It'll be cold, so we won't wait much longer than 5 minutes past the meet up time - if you're late, you can catch up. :)
Mill Creek Canyon is a fee area - $3 per vehicle paid to the ranger on the way out of the canyon (they don't take credit cards). You can also buy an annual pass - I think the current rate for the annual pass is $40.
Just in case: what to do if you encounter a moose:
