Let's Hike at Santa Rosa Plateau!

The Santa Rosa Plateau is located at the southern end of the Santa Ana Mountains in southwestern Riverside County, California. Ancient oak woodlands, rare bunch grass prairie, and aromatic coastal sage scrub are a few of the plant communities that reside on this land.

We will hike along a fire road that provides an expansive view of the plateau, take an uphill trail that leads up to a gorgeous panoramic photo op, and then cut in through a forestry trail that will lead us to the adobes and a beautiful barn. This is a very nice outing! Deer, rabbits, coyotes, and a variety of birds have been spotted during our hikes.

It's mostly flat, easy walking with a few hilly spots. We will hike about 6 miles. Walk at your own pace and stop to take pictures when you want. If the group gets stretched out, we will reform at trail markers along the way if we need to.

Bring plenty of water, snack and a $3.00 donation that goes to the park.  Dogs are not allowed on this side of the plateau.

The parking lot is open at sunrise, but the visitor center is closed until 9:00 AM. We will meet there at 8:00 a.m. I would recommend stopping at the shops off Clinton Keith Road to use the restroom since the visitor's center will be closed. Otherwise, there is a clean Port-a-Potty near our break stop. We will begin our hike promptly at 8:15 a.m.

INTERESTED IN CARPOOLING?  MEET AT THE ONTARIO PARK & RIDE PARKING LOT ON ARCHIBALD, SOUTH OF 60 FWY (NEXT TO 24 HR FITNESS, ACROSS THE STREET FROM MCDONALD'S) AT 7:00 A.M. SHARP. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO DRIVE, PLEASE POST YOUR CAR CAPACITY.

Join us afterwards for breakfast or lunch.

I'll meet up with you folks at the Plateau parking lot. (I've got some things going on afterwards and need some flexibility.) Looking forward to a beautiful day and a great hike.
