ABOUT THE GROUP
This is a group for fit people who want a workout from their day on the trails. Fitness and socialising in the great outdoors are priorities for our members. We hike at a push pace and on hilly trails that earn you the right to indulge at the fabulous pubs and picnic areas that we stop at. We encourage a good mix of active men and woman for great banter, the odd bit of flirting and new friendships. Most active members range in age between mid 20s to early 50s, but any age is welcome as long as you can hold your own at a very brisk pace on hilly routes. Our hikes make great local training for treks abroad like Everest Base camp or Kilimanjaro.
ABOUT OUR ROUTES
For Meet-Up, Hike to Indulge seeks out new routes by pre-walking and timing them before offering only the best routes with extra wow factor to our guest. Further research goes into finding yummy stylish pubs or scenic picnic spots along the way. Much preplanning and time goes into mapping out the routes on specialist software and using the latest technology to find those fabulous hilly trails. We try to keep the group under 26 and always walk at a good workout pace and leave the meandering to other groups. Since all routes have been pre walked rarely do we need to slow down to read a map. However, if for some reason we need make a detour or have an emergency an OS map, a compass, GPS and a first kit are always carried on the hikes. Most walks will give a description of estimated length in miles or kilometers as well as total ascent of the entire route to give an idea of how hilly a trail is. Note this is never the ascent of a single hill. The maximum height of any hill that we walk up will not be more than 250 meters. This is mainly a low land hill walking group and hikes in Mountains will be led by a qualified Mountain Leader instead of Alex. Finishing times of the walk are estimated and depend on how fast the group is.
Hike to indulge hikes are led by Alex, who has undergone the Walking Group Leader training and holds a certificate in Wilderness First Aid. As a member of the British Mountaineering Council she keeps up to date with the latest trends and news in hill walking in the UK. Hike to Indulge is in its 3rd year of operation having led nearly 100 walks through, Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Brecon Beacons and Scotland. She has been fortunate enough to have also trekked Kilimanjaro, Mount Toubkal in Morocco, the Inca Trail, Cuba, Himalayas in Northern India and Nepal, Bhutan,Burma, Sri Lanka and Yosemite. In the UK she has climbed Ben Nevis, Snowdon, Scafell Pike and many other Lake District peaks. Most recently she walked 100km of the South Downs way in one day in the Trailwalker challenge. As a personal trainer Alex has trained dozens of clients over the past 8 years to successfully trek Kilimanjaro, Inca Trail, Everest Base Camp and the UK 3 peaks. More recently, she wrote and designed the Walking and Trekking preparation manual for Exodus Travels, the world’s largest trekking company. Alex also occasionally leads full service day walks for Exodus (the worlds largest trekking company) at a more moderate pace.
