Hike the North Country Trail in Western Minnesota

This walk will be at Prairie Wetlands Learning Center in Fergus Falls. It is taking place on Saturday during the Earth Day celebrations. It is geared towards teens and adults who have read or may be interested in reading the book Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
Participants should bring their own journal or notebook and pencil.
All other materials will be provided.

This walk will take place outdoors, weather permitting, for up to 2 hours, walking on trails and sitting on the ground. A shorter version may be provided indoors in case of inclement weather.

Leaders are Jacob McArthur, West Central Initiative board member representing White Earth Nation, and Molly Stoddard, retired Prairie Wetlands Learning Center educator

Laurentian Lakes members and friends will begin a series of hikes to hike all sections of the North Country Trail in our chapter that are off-road, beginning at HWY 34 trailhead and ending at Itasca in Oct. We'll hike one week on Wednesday and the next week on Saturday. You are invited to hike one or all of these rain or shine hikes.

Meet at 9:00 am at the Hwy 34 trailhead. From Detroit Lakes, go east on MN State HWY 34 for 9.6 miles. The TH is on the south side of the HWY. This will be a three mile in and out hike, that features farm land and fence stiles to cross. Bring water and a snack and tick protection.

Schedule of Events:
A guided chapter hike will leave from Lion’s Park at 2:00 pm. This will be about a 4 mile hike through Frazee and Wannigan Regional Park.

• 5:00 PM Social - Check out the silent auction featuring outdoorsy items and unique local artisans’ products. All proceeds will go toward building, and maintaining the North Country Trail (NCT)

• 5:30 PM Annual Laurentian Lakes Chapter business meeting

• 6:00 PM Lucky Buck Auction (bring some $1 bills!)

• 6:30 PM Dinner/Speaker Enjoy a presentation on the management of our state forests, which is a critical issue along our trail by Mike Lichter, DNR Area Forest Supervisor

• 7:30 PM Silent Auction closes
