On this tour we will visit the East Bay Regional Parks Botanic Garden of Native California Wildflowers. It is spring and the plan is to see the most abundant displays of California's blooming native wildflowers. (continued below)
This visit, will be followed the next Friday and Sat. by the Preview of and the Friends of Mt.Tam Annual Wildflower Hike, to see some of the blooming flowers we saw today, and many more in their habitat on Mt.Tamalpais. (See the event listings for April 11th & 12th.)
The flowers in the Botanic Garden are identified with small plaques. On our next visit to Mt.Tam , we can use what we have learned on this tour to help us identify the wildflowers we will see on Mt.Tam.
This is a great opportunity for photography. Bring a camera if interested in flower photos. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots.
As time allows, we can stop (45 minutes) on our way back and see some of the most interesting Heritage House Architecture in the Bernard Maybeck area of the North Berkeley Hills. Greenwood Terrace (park here) my favorite short street in the North Berkeley Hills, and nearby walk over to see; Pete Seeger's family house and Maybeck Twin Dr.
As before when we are in the area; a stop at Saul's New York style deli is very close by for good tasty food. Lastly the area has many shops for exploring too, afterwards.
