Little Sugar Creek Greenway - Evening Walk

  • Mar 8, 2013 · 5:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Walk length - 5 mile total (out and back)

Walk difficulty: easy to moderate (because of length)

Pace: moderate 2.5 to 3 mph

Duration: under 2 hours

Terrain: pavement and concrete

Start time: 5:15 PM

New year and new season of fun, enjoyable weekday evening walks.

Update: Please carpool where possible, the primary parking area (Elizabeth Ave.) has 30 parking spots. If primary lot is full use alternate parking lot (20 spots) located at 1127 E. 4th St. (100 yards from primary lot).

Description: When complete, the greenway will feature over 19 miles of trails and land connectors, from Toby Creek Greenway on North Tryon Street to Cordelia Park just north of uptown. The greenway will continue through the urban section and on to the South Carolina state line, conveniently linking Central Piedmont Community College, Carolina Healthcare System and the Park Road and Carolina Place shopping areas among many other destinations.

A space for quiet reflection or a social hot spot, the greenway will be built with the diversity that has Charlotte/Mecklenburg in mind. The walker, jogger, tourist, nature lover, bench sitter or cyclist will delight in this path that connects us all. Urban Little Sugar Creek also includes a major stream restoration project to enhance water quality.

  • Terrain: All of our walk will be on pavement and concrete.
  • Pets are permissible, though they must be leashed at all times. There are several locations which have garbage cans, as well as doggie bags for picking up after your pet.
  • There are public restroom facilities along this greenway and inside Fredom Park.
  • Each hiker is responsible for their own snacks and water if needed.
  • If high chance of thunderstorms, walk will be rescheduled.

We'll meet at the Little Sugar Creek Greenway parking lot @ Elizabeth and N. Kings Dr. Our walk will take us from the greenway to Freedom Park and back. Half of our walk will be at sunset so we'll be able to enjoy the beautiful lights and views of Center City Charlotte and Midtown.

Would love to go but I get off work at 5 so I'm sure with traffic I doubt I would make it in time.

Will there be some faster paced walkers? My pace is close to 5mph and I would really like to get in a workout.
