Clark's Creek/Mallard Creek Greenways - Easy Walk

This is our longest greenway, stretching more than 7 miles. It is used by joggers, walkers, bicyclists, rollerbladers, baby strollers, and skateboarders. The western end is a paved trail through many university area neighborhoods. In the middle is a gravel trail through University Research Park. The eastern end is a paved trail passing through mature floodplain forest, under I-85 and Highway 29, and on to the Kirk Farm soccer fields near UNC-Charlotte.

This easy, level Greenway is mostly paved asphalt ideal for anything from skateboarding to jogging.

Pets are permissible, though they must be leashed at all times. Most trailheads have garbage cans, as well as doggie bags for picking up after your pet.

There are no public restroom facilities along this greenway.

Each hiker is responsible for their own snacks and water.

UPDATE TO MEETING PLACE:

We'll meet at Kirk Farm Fields parking lot near UNCC in time to start our walking at 9am. We'll head west and cover a total 2.5-3 hours of moderate-paced walking. For those who would like to do lunch afterwards, we will be going to Don Pedro's for a pre-Cinco de Mayo celebration! :)

It was a good workout: 7mile hike and the weather was perfect, unfortunately no public bathroom on the premises.

Always clean and shaded in areas, winding around with the creek along side. Wonderful to have that in our community.

Hi Ami. Looking forward to a nice walk tomorrow. How long do you think it will take approximately, without adding on some extra mileage like at Concord ;-)

      Thank you

      1 · May 2, 2014

Yes, it is a total of 7 miles. See you tomorrow! :)

For everyone planning to come, from first-timers to seasoned members of our group, since this is a hike of a total of 7 miles, plan to bring water and snacks so you keep hydrated on the trail and curb any hunger pangs between breakfast and lunch. Keep in mind that this stretch of greenway does NOT offer restroom facilities so drink lightly as we walk. We will keep a moderate pace and plan to have the hike completed within 2.5-3 hours. Please plan accordingly and if you are able after the hike, we will lunch at Don Pedros nearby. For those who are not coming tomorrow, please take a moment to update your RSVP. Thanks! See you all tomorrow morning :)

For anyone interested in purchasing a Hiking Charlotte/Piedmont t-shirt, I will have them at the hike: short-sleeved are light blue and $10/ea, long-sleeved are green and $15/ea. Sizes available are M-XL at this time (unisex sizing). First come, first served! Cash only.

Now that the morning sun comes earlier in the day, we will meet up at 9am to get ahead of any heat. See you all soon!
