Time: 4 to 5 hours— up and back
Danger level: 4 (loose rock)
How easy to follow: 3
Pace: Moderate - we will take breaks as often or as little as needed
A high clearance vehicle is recommended to get to the trail head. I have a Jeep Wrangler and am able to fit 3 others for the ride up. If anyone has a high clearance vehicle and is coming on this hike it will be greatly appreciated if you would be willing to help drive fellow hikers to and from the trailhead.
We will meet at the east parking garage on the 2nd floor at the southeast corner. We will take a few minutes to condense down to as few vehicles as needed to get to were we will begin the hike. Please don't forget to tip your driver a few dollars for gas since it is a bit of a drive to get to the were we will begin the hike. I don't intend to pay the $8 per vehicle to park in the campground. Doing so will just add a little more distance to the end of the hike when we are already tired.
I don't intend on this hike being at a mountain goat or Speedy Gonzalez pace. 10 years in the military have not been all to kind to my knees and ankles and my current job is not all to kind on them either. I would like to have everyone who attends make it to the peak. We can take breaks as needed.
Bring plenty of water with you on this hike. I would recommend 3 litters at the absolute minimum. I would also recommend bringing some kind of electrolyte supplement for the hike to help prevent dehydration and heat/muscle cramps. Also bring some snacks with you as well to help get you through the hike (they definitely help).
If you’re not use to the elevation of the Spring Mountains yet I would not recommend this hike. For everyone who attends this hike please be aware of altitude sickness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altitude_sickness) and it's signs and symptoms.
The waiting list is set to Automatic for this meetup! Hopefully I will remember to set it to manual the evening before the hike so nobody gets placed on the attending list in the middle of the night! If your on the wait list the night before make sure you check the site in the morning in case a spot opened up. The RSVP option will close at 6 a.m. the day of the hike.
If you are part of the 52 Peak club, please bring money for your card (exact change is preferred). The card is $2. If you would like to join, please bring $20 for the one time sign-up fee & $2 for the card. Cards will be distributed at the peak. Although this hike is part of the 52 Peak Club, you do not have to be part of the club to join us on the hike.
