O: Devil's Punchbowl Hike

THIS HIKE IS SPONSORED BY THE WILDERNESS TRAINING COMMITTEE (WTC)!!!!

Come play with us in the Devil’s Punchbowl!!!

What a great way to celebrate the holidays and get your conditioning going for WTC. Join us for this fun and unique hike to the Devil’s Chair in this remarkable geological area. Getting to the Devil’s Chair is a 7.5 mile out-and-back hike with a total of 1200 feet elevation gain. It is a canyon, so we will keep our heart rates up as we get elevation on the way in and on the way out. Along the way we will get spectacular views of local peaks and the Devil’s Punchbowl - which is described as "peculiar uptilted rock formations!" Wow! We will end our day by actually descending down into the Devil's Punch Bowl via the popular 1 mile Loop Trail (300 feet elevation gain on the way out).  Once back at the nature center we will get a special treat as the nature center's ranger will meet with our group and introduce us to the 3 resident owls (Smitty, Squints and Ruth). The ranger will talk with us about the area's unique geology, the owls, and give us the opportunity to meet the amazing resident owls up close and personal!!!! They are exquisite magical beings and worth getting to know!

The group size will be limited.

TO PARTICIPATE: Please send contact info, rideshare info, and recent conditioning & hiking experience to leader Geri Ulrey [masked]

BRING: 2 liters of water, lunch, lug soles, hat and layered clothing.

MEETING POINT: 10 am in front of the Visitor's Center.

Leaders: Geri Ulrey and Valerie Thomas

This hike is a Sierra Club sponsored event and Sierra Club Rules of Conduct will apply.  All participants will be required to follow Sierra Club rules, sign the Sign-In-Sheet AND sign a Liability Waiver at the trail head.  Thanks!

Oh, forgot to mention in case some of you forgot the 'report card' that was offered by the park staff. They get credit for their work here: https://survey.lacounty.gov/LACounty/se.ashx?s=645F266E1624A1E9 so in lieu of sending a post card you can do this online.
