“The Seven Summits” with Kurt Wedberg

“The Seven Summits” with Kurt Wedberg,
the founder of Sierra Mountaineering International. On October 8th, 2012 Kurt reached the summit of Carstensz Pyramid, completing the Seven Summits, a well-known mountaineering objective, the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. The Seven Summits, from highest to lowest, are: Mount Everest (Asia), Aconcagua (South America), Denali (North America), Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Elbrus (Europe), Mount Vinson (Antarctica), and Carstensz Pyramid (Australasia/Oceania).

Kurt has been a professional mountain guide since 1986 and has 69 major expeditions on his resume including successful ascents of Mt. Everest in 1995, 2008, and 2012. He has led expeditions to peaks in Africa, Alaska, the Alps, Antarctica, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, Russia, Tibet, and Turkey. Kurt was a senior guide on Mt. Rainier from[masked] and currently has 119 ascents of this peak. He has been mountaineering in the Sierra for over 25 years. Kurt runs Sierra Mountaineering International from his hometown of Bishop, California along the base of the beautiful Eastern Sierra.

Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 7pm at Culver City Veterans Memorial Auditorium in the Garden Room, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City 90230. This free educational event is sponsored by the West Los Angeles Group of the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter. Plenty of free lighted parking. Refreshments are served and there is always a lively talk accompanying the program. Feel free to bring a friend; all meetings are free and open to members and non-members of the Sierra Club.
