Federation Forest 3-mile easy hike east of Enumclaw - Sunday

  • April 21, 2013 · 1:00 PM

This hike is full - (no new RSVP's even if someone cancels).  Thanks.

Celebrate Earth Day and Sierra Club Founder John Muir's Birthday with a 3-mile hike in old growth forest!

Approximately 2 hours, good hike for children.

What to bring . . . Boots if it has been rainy, raincoat if raining – we will hike rain or shine. Water bottle, trailmix, and/or sandwich.

Celebrate Sierra Club founder John Muir's birthday and Earth Day with this special hike through old growth forest. Our hike will be relatively flat, as we are visiting one of the few remaining lowland old growth forest areas in the state. It's a truly special mix of trees and plants, and our route will take us by the unique Hobbit Village - a place known by hikers where we will see some of the “treasures” of the hobbit. Federation Forest was acquired, built and organized just over 60 years ago through the work the Washington State Federation of Women's Clubs. It is a cherished part of our State Park system.

When finished, we’ll have the opportunity for a hot beverage provided by Sierra Club volunteers. Those who want to can enjoy their afternoon snack at the picnic area together.

Date: Sunday April 21. (Same hike as saturday - available both days, come to one day that works best for you.)
Time: Hike starts at 1 PM. carpooling from Enumclaw at about 12:30.

Location: RSVP for location details. Carpooling coordinated as needed.

Hey all - to those who made it and those who couldn't, i thought you might like to see more about "old growth." It's really interesting - this is where I got the info for the conservation talk: http://www.fs.fed.us/pnw/pubs/science-update-4.pdf

Hi kristen. I actually got stuck in new York. I thought I might still make it back, but I'm still on the wait list. So sorry for the inconvenience. Hope you have a great hike.

Hi. My sons and I are really excited to go one this hike. Please send directions so that we know where to go. We have a pilot that seats 8 if carpooling would be helpful.

    • Kristen B.

Heidi. I'll send you a message directly. In order for carpooling to be successful we've found we need to establish a direct contact loop with phone or email. So let me know if you get my message!

Okay. I've got the message. Thank you Kristen! (Like the hat, BTW)

Where is the carpooling coordinated or can I just meet at the park

    April 4, 2013

    • Kristen B.

Carpooling will be coordinated through messages to those attending - giving people one more day to finalize RSVP's (to avoid unnecessary changes in plans for everyone).

I have this hike down for Saturday the 20th, did I get it wrong? Are you going BOTH days? Another group did this hike last week and said I was a no-show, but their hike time was 9am and I know I'm no good in the mornings...so, I've messed up somehow! Anyway, here's to getting it right; if I'm allowed to come, that is.

    April 15, 2013

    • Kristen B.

Yes, holding 2 separate outings - one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Be sure to change RSVP to "not attending" for the one you don't plan to do or you'll get marked as a no-show.

Are these hikes open to non Sierra Club members? If so I'd like to go however I may need to cancel if called to work. I will change my rsvp if I have to work.

Hi Vivian - thanks for the question. Yes, the hike is open and we welcome everyone who thinks they would enjoy it based on the description. RSVP ahead of time is required, so thanks for doing that and for letting us know if you have to cancel. Hope you can make it!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
