Lake Serene / Bridal Veil Falls

At the base of Mt. Index lies one of the most beautiful lakes on this earth. With snow year round ( at only 2500 feet in elevation ) and crystal clear water, Lake Serene is a prime example of how blessed we are to have so much natural beauty in our own back yard. A NW Forest Pass is required for parking at this trailhead.

This will be an all day event and there is no exact time on when we will be back at the P&R. If you have other commitments for that evening, you may want to take your own car to the trailhead.

For safety reasons, it is very important to stay together in a group and wait for others when you get to a trail junction.

Length: 8.4 miles ( round trip )

Configuration: Out and back

Pace: Slow to moderate

Elevation Gain: 2,000 feet

Exposure: Mostly shaded, less shaded towards the top

Level of Difficulty: Moderate to difficult

Access: NW Forest Pass required at trailhead

Facilities: Restroom at trailhead, no drinking water

Trail Conditions: Mostly rocky and very steep in places

Hiking Time: 7 to 8 hours

What to Bring:

Good boots and poles

Food and plenty of water ( at least two liters )

Sun block

The 10 essentials

Morning Itinerary:

8:00 AM ~ Meet at the P&R

8:15 AM ~ Leave for the trailhead

9:15 AM ~ Arrive at the trailhead

9:30 AM ~ Start the hike

Hiking Time ~ 7-8 hours

It was goooood times talking, laughing and enjoying the views of the beautiful lake. Glad this is one of my first 5th hikes with Meetup and mostly overall. First ones are always more exciting and memorable :). Thank you for the fun and adventure! See you all again soon!

I definitely enjoyed all the people and the beautiful day. Lake Serene was gorgeous and definitely worth the hike. Thanks Bob, you always lead a great hike with a great group of people!

    You did it again, Bob. Another 5 STAR! The lake was precisely what it's named after;
" SERENE"; it was worth every step of the climb. Thank you!

Lake Serene is one lake that lives up to it's name. It was so beautiful with Mt Index and the glaciers in the background. I had such a fun group today and eveyone was so nice.

Would the hike take the entire day? Does anyone have a rough idea when we ll be back?? Thanks

I prob won't be able to make it because I have to be back by 4. Any chance we can make these all-day hikes on a Sat in the near future? 12 hr hike just takes too much out of the last day before the week starts. Thank you for considering...

Also, is there a reason why this hike takes 7-8 hours, considering its only 8 miles round trip?Even at 2 mph, shouldnt it take no more than about 4 hours for the entire loop, or are you factoring in lots of rest time as well? Just wondering.

That is just an approximate time frame. We probably won't take that long but we would just like some time to enjoy the scenery. If time and speed are a concern for you, I would recommend going with one of the other organizers who likes to hike at a faster pace.

Any way to expand the number of available spots for this hike? How many people out of those who RSVP yes actually show up, generally?Sorry this is last minute, I would like to tag along if possible.

Just to let everyone know that there is a long waiting list for this hike. Often times in the past, because of no-shows or last minute cancellations, others would end up missing out. So if your plans change between now and Sunday, please take a moment and update your RSVP...............thank you.
