Blanca Lake

Let's hike to Blanca Lake this Sunday! The weather forecast looks perfect.

RT: 7.5 mile
Elevation gain: 3300'
High point: 4600'
Difficulty: Moderate

This is a popular hike to a beautiful cobalt blue lake. The trail is relatively short, but steep. Be sure to have plenty of water and the 10 essentials. We'll meet at the Bothell Brickyard Park-n-ride at 8AM to carpool. A Northwest Forest Pass is required at the trailhead, where we should arrive around 9:30. We'll linger at the lake for a while and get back to the trailhead at about 3:30. I usually like to stop somewhere on the way back for food and drink, probably in Gold Bar. Here is the WTA link for a full description:

Sorry it took me a while to deal with pics (have several trips to go through), many pictures out there of the lake, so I kept it to a few:

    See you all again.

So did the directions from the WTA website work, in regards to finding the trailhead? I ask b/c my friends & I are going this wknd & don't want to get lost... So based on the reviews/comments here, I take it that it was challenging, but a very beautiful hike?

Yes, the WTA directions were perfect. The hike is pretty strenuous, but if you are a seasoned hiker it's no problem, because of the short distance. There is one rock you have to scramble up for about 10 ft to get to the ridge, but it's not difficult. Well worth the effort to get to this beautiful place :-)

Thanks, I can't wait to go this weekend (my friends & I are seasoned hikers, so I'm not worried about it being challenging)!!

It was a great hike with the stunning destination. Thank you Amy for organizing this trip. It was my first hike with the group and I had an amazing time with all of you. I just found a way to upload the pictures hopefully I did it correctly :). It was nice meeting you all and I am looking forward to hiking with many of you again.

So, this hike was out of scope for a few people! But it was an absolutely gorgeous destination. Thank you all for coming, and especially those of you who were so helpful to fellow hikers. You are awesome :-) A few lessons learned on this posting that I will heed in future postings...

Its a very tough hike including rock climbing. About half mile to the lake my feet gave up & I couldn't make it to the lake. Amy was kind enough to accompany me to the small lake. Amy & Ben were stopping for me to catch up.

Great day out, not necessarily quite as expected perhaps, but nevertheless, gorgeous day and an awesome lake. Thank you Amy and all who attended.

What are the directions to get to the trailhead, for those of us who may end up driving from the park and ride? I also noticed on the wta page that many recent trip reports complain of bugs on the trail, so I recommend everyone bring insect repellent!

Thanks Ben for reposting the details of the drive. That does seem to be the trickiest part of the trip. Bugs are something that you can click on on the WTA site as an "issue", but generally bugs are not a big deal here in WA. Should be a really great hike tomorrow! See you all in the morning :-)

Unfortunately, I have some other commitments for tomorrow that came up, so I will have to meet up a different time. Hope you guys have a great hike!

Hey All, my friends and I are doing this hike on another day and I've heard both the trail head and the lake itself can be difficult to find. Other than going by the directions on the WTA website, does anyone have any tips/advice, so we don't get lost? :)

Getting to the trail head can be a little tricky because of some unmarked roads, but once on the trail you'll be led to the lake.

I keep missing the weekday meets, but this fits my schedule perfectly, looking forward to it.
