been looking for a challenge?
Mount Maroon has one for you!
This is a challenging walk (part scramble) defiantly not for the unfit!
Getting to the top is worth it!
Mt maroon is the steep peak beside Mt barney, starting at the end of Cotswold rd maroon you start going up an incline that leads to a rocky scramble up a small gully (the last 200 meters or so), once you get to the top of that its opens up to a shallow treed bowl (much like a rotten tree stump) with a ring of rocky cliffs circling it!
Distance wise its not particularly long but its a climb straight up and then straight down on the return, and a 'stairs' like section near the summit is testing. Best done in the cooler months as there's not a lot of tree cover on the way up
This can be done it 4hours if you do not stop, but consider 5hours is more likely
Meet at the end of cotswold rd, maroon on saturday at 8:20 for a 8:40 sharp departure!
(just drive all the way till the road stops, theres a car parking area and national park sign)
I will be camping at flannagans reserve on the friday night if you want to join me ($8 per person per night) send me a txt! (a campground nearby)
Please bring: water, snacks, lunch, personal first aid kit (recommend voltaren), energy/magnesium drink (to stop cramps), suitable cloths/shoes
This is a strenuous climb and a good challenge, not for the unfit!
